That would equal more running space, more points, more big plays and more highlights. They are not worried about safety or improving the game, they want to attract more people (non-football fans) and make more money.

that was exactly my thinking, bigger plays, bigger attraction, bigger money. What better way to implement than to hide behind player safety

Misleading thread is misleading.
The NFL is NOT considering this, Bill Polian simply mentioned it.

What about all the billion dollar stadiums that were already built with the present width? You want them to do hundreds of millions of renovations? LMJ and Kaep like this idea. Ginn too on returns. Speed would become more important and power less.

Yeah, HORRIBLE thread title. An owner bouncing a crazy idea off the wall is not the NFL considering something.
They will never widen the field. You change dimensions now, and every record becomes obsolete. Different game entirely.
Owners should be trying to get the league to extend the goal posts about 3-4 feet higher at the top. A kicker can only kick a ball so high. About 3-4 feet would completely eliminate any borderline in/out FG calls.

Not enough room at all stadiums to lose 17.5' per sideline?

There is no "potential rule change" with this.

Why lock the thread? What is the fear?
I am fine with a moderated board but I don't think these board needs to be facilitated.
