Exclusive 4-3 DE? Not likely. I dont know if he's ever played 3-4 OLB and dont want someone like him taking snaps away from Aldon let alone Brooks during passing downs.

could come in as nickle pass rusher. I would dump Jacobs and sign this dude or another pass rusher.

Very surprised he was cut, he was a huge signing for them in 2011. Guess he didnt fit in well enough.
Would have to make cap space room to sign him. Wouldn't be hard, maybe restructure one guys deal, opens a little cap room, signed for minimum, with vet credit, plus he would only get portion of salary due to so long into season.

When you play alongside Jared Allen, Pat Williams, and Kevin Williams, you are going to have a lot of 1-on-1 opportunities at the line of scrimmage. This is the reason why Edwards was able to post 8 sacks back to back seasons in Minnesota.
In Atlanta, they have John Abraham...but no dominant DTs that would ease pressure off of Williams when rushing the passer. I wasn't surprised Edwards became a huge bust.
I could see the Raiders going after him to help jump start that D.

Yeah, he seemed like a different DE, he was awesome next to Pat and Kevin Williams, and Allen, that front 4 was amazing, but Edwards proved he was more of a bust. I remember liking him a ton out of college.

So you'd want a guy who has produced 3.5 sacks in 1.5 years since leaving Jared Allen and the "Williams Wall" and replace Aldon or Brooks who have combined for 34.5 in the same time span? Even if its only on 3rd down that is not a good idea, I'd be all for it if we were getting creative with his placement a la Mathias Kiwanuka as DT, meaning replace Ray Mac or Sopoaga for Edwards or any pass rush specialist for that matter.
EDIT: lol I didn't read either Geek's or AB's posts before posting mine, glad we all know that Edwards' production was most likely a byproduct of being the least talent member of one of the best front 4's in recent memory.
Double edit: I would gladly dump Jacobs for a legitimate pass rusher by the way, definitely agree on that, just not that it should be Edwards.

It's not like he'd start lol^ he'd be rotational to give Smith and Brookes a break once in a while lol

Thats what I said.....I said even it was for 3rd down only it is not a smart move to replace a player(s) who have 10 times the sacks he has in the same time span....
and given that he is 8 years into a career of being only a 4-3 DE I doubt he'd be worth the time training to be an OLB -- he'd only be worth it form a pass rush specialist and there are plenty of better players with better production then him if we are looking for nothing more then a 3rd down specialist to spell Brooks or Smith.

+2 ...we wouldnt need him to play OLB , use him as a LDE in the nickel and dime packages , wouldnt hurt to have a quality DE for those situations , plus more depth , and he would be effective rushing the passer IMO , with Cowboy and Aldon on the D-Line in the nickel , Ray Edwards would make plays , he would be like Rod Green

Again I'm just stating he'd be a rotational player. You know, the guys need a break sometimes. He wouldn't go in EVERY third down. It would completely random, when Aldon or brooks needed a breather. Sort of how Clark Haggins is now except he sucks too.
Not saying I'd sign him but I don't think you understand what depth is

Can't play 3-4 OLB. We would never use him on 3rd downs either since Aldon and Ahmad man the DE spots in passing situations.
Pass.
Pass.
