put Vernon in the Pats offense with Tom Brady and I guarantee he'd put up Gronk numbers, if not better.
he put up nearly 1000 yards and 13 TDs with Shaun Hill/Alex Smith as his QB under Jimmy Raye's offense one year. No doubt he could get 400 more yards and 4 more TDs with Brady in the Patriot's system (matching Gronk's numbers)
Vernon is the all around best TE in the game, when it comes to receiving, blocking, athleticism, mismatches, whatever. Vernon could do everything. No way Gronk can do what Vernon did in last postseason.
Just my opinion
Gronkowski is a WR playing TE. He can't block and plays in a pass-heavy offense with a great QB throwing him the ball. Vernon blocks on about half of all offensive snaps while playing in a more balanced system with a QB that is nowhere near the level of Tom Brady. These are facts. Vernon Davis is the far better overall TE.
