do defenses still matter?

All year long we heard these names, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, oh and of coarse Tebow, lol, but the main focus was on this high passing attack that was so unstoppable. 3 QB's going over 5,000 passing yards, is Eli an elite Qb, and it was just offense offense offense, there was no room for defense. And the question was asked? Do defenses still win Championships. In the eyes of former players and coaches and the media, (which is the same) the answer was an emphatic NO!, however here we are just 4 1/2 days away from the championship games to determine who goes to the big dance, and with all the offense talk and super elite qb's.. how ironic would it be to have the niners and ravens,(giants defense is'nt near as good as either) two teams that swear by defense determine the champion of 2011, and answer the question DO DEFENSES STILL WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS?

I think the answer will be yes! And not only will it be that, but, Harbaugh might just change the way teams pick coaches, and the way coaches coach their players.....
3/4 teams have a fierce defense.

ask pierre thomas
3 out of 4 QBs you mentioned have been eliminated by defense and turnovers. I'll take a wild guess at it and say...yes.

We even got 49ers fans making excuses for the Steelers losing. All teams have injuries by the playoffs there's no excuses in this part of the season. Either your good enough or not.

Are the niners in the NFC championship game?
Do bears s**t in the woods?
NOPE, not at all.

Of course defenses still matter. Two of the three Pats-losses during the season came against good defenses (I consider the Giants-offense as a good one). The Packers won so many games b/c the offense could neutralize their weak defense.
The Ravens had lost against a 5th-round QB if their defense wouldnt have been such a stout unit. We won against the Saints b/c our defense is not such a s**tload like the one in Detroit.
TT won so many games b/c his defense kept him in the game. The Texans went to the playoffs in spite of a 3rd-string QB b/c their defense played very good (in contrary to that, the Texans of the last year didnt go to the POs b/c of their defense, the offense is very good for years).

Usually, there is at least one franchise in the SB, which is very good in the defense, just like Steelers, Giants, Bears and so on. You can go to the SB without a Peyton/Rodgers-like QB under center if you have a very good defense. But you have to have a QB-machine if you wanna have a chance for the big one if your defense sucks.
Now, what is more probable?
