What is the "Truth" regarding Rookie Salary Cap?

I was under the impression that the NFL was going to take a hard line approach to
rookie salary caps, but then heard this morning that Cam Newton is expected to get
a deal worth about 22 million... I know its a far cry from the 78 million dollar deal that
Sam Bradford got, but is this really enough of a rookie salary cap???

Does anyone know what the actual breakdown of the Rookie Salary Cap???

Not sure a full detailed slotted breakdown has been released. But from 78 to 22 million is huge. Not sure how much more of a hardline you want them to take.

Yes, 78 to 22 million is huge.. I was hoping it would be more of an NBA
salary cap, and force these rookies to really prove themselves onto a
team... Maybe a cap of like 5 million in total, with improved revenue for
proven veterans and retired/disabled players... But I suppose that would
be far too much to ask... Personally, I feel these rookies are severely
Over compensated, and Un-proven.. Forgive my Humble Opinion

I see what you are saying...but I don't think NBA math would work here...there are far more rookie NFL players on teams then NBA players...After the lottery picks in the NBA its hard to find players past the 2nd round having a career...There are alot more rookie NFL players making the 53 man rostor on teams so the cap has to be bigger than the NBA.

The benefit is the four year deal with a team optioned 5th.

Teams don't have to commit six years to one guy anymore and take a beating when they have to cut him.

Also, a 3 year deal in the NFL is not like the same 3 year deal in the NBA in terms of career longevity and injury risk.
