Report: Pats, Chargers talking Vincent Jackson trade

So with receiver Randy Moss shipped from New England to Minnesota, the Patriots could use a receiver.

And amid reports that the Pats could be pulling a Randy Moss with Deion Branch, whom they traded away in 2006 and could re-acquire from the Seahawks, Tom Curran of CSNNE.com reports that the Patriots have "looked into the possibly" of trading for Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson.

Per Curran, preliminary discussions have involved the possibility of Jackson, an unsigned restricted free agent, being swapped for holdout guard Logan Mankins, another unsigned restricted free agent.

The asking price, according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune (via Curran) is a second-round pick and a third-round pick for an NFC team, and a first-round pick and a second-round pick for an AFC team.

Curiously, any team could have signed Jackson to an offer sheet in March and April, giving up only a first-round pick and a third-round pick as compensation, if the Chargers had opted not to match.

Knew this was gonna happen.
not going to happen, he could have been traded by now but a.j. smith or whatever his name is won't pull the trigger

Those f**king Pats!
Think about it this way... The Patriots definitely have the ammo to make this move. The have 2 picks in each of the first 4 rounds. Their own, plus the Raiders' 1st, the Panthers' 2nd, the Vikings' 3rd, and the Broncos' 4th round pick.
Best front office in the NFL.

This.

Gain a 3rd rounder...(already having tons of picks)...get younger gaining Jackson over Moss...and STILL have a ton of picks.

Didn't they have a ton of picks this year too but they kept trading down?
Bill B that prick loves draft picks so much, thats the only reason I doubt it would happen.SCREW THE PATS

Yep. They always have a ton of picks..but trade away their older stars for even MORE picks..and the process keeps going because they keep making great moves.
NFL.com News: CBA issue could lead Jackson, Mankins to sign by Week 10
I wish we had a front office like that.

Well played.
According to this, Mankins is likely to be packaged into any deal: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d81b27fce/article/report-patriots-talk-to-chargers-about-mankinsjackson-trade?module=HP_headlines

And that makes sense. Makes the "draft pick price" much less.

Mankins + 3rd or 2nd seems plausible.
