Rodgers would probably never have played with a chip on his shoulder. I'm sure he wanted to play for the 49ers but I think some of it had to do with getting #1 money. His next contract will make up for that, maybe, but the did miss out on a big bonus. I don't care what anybody says 3 years of not playing and sitting behind and learning the same offense from a legend will do a lot for you. I remember the year before he got drafted a lot of the so called experts seriously thought that usc could beat the niners in a scrimmage, so to be thrown into that i'm not sure how rodgers would have reacted. He may have been complacent being so close to home and partying way too much, or being close to home and not wanting to dissapoint all of his fans would have pushed him to the level he's at right now. Bottom line you never know!

Next contract? He signed a new contract halfway through his first year as a starter, I believe.

It sucks that the team missed out on Rodgers, but it has a chance to remedy that by developing Nate Davis. If Smith continues to be underwhelming (he will against the Vikings pass rush) and Davis looks good, then the coaching staff will start preparing to make Davis the eventual starter this year.

They won't publicly announce it, they'll just slowly give Davis more reps and a promotion to the #2 spot with the intention of quickly pulling the trigger during the 1st or 2nd unexcusable performance and loss by Alex Smith. Smith is going to face 5 good coaching staffs to start the season, his track record says he'll fail. I can't wait until the team moves on and starts reaching it's potential.

You might not like the smugness of my post, but you can't offer any evidence based on Alex Smith's past performances to credibly argue that the outcome will be different.

It's really awesome how you know how the 49ers playbook works!

It is completely crazy how far people will go because of denial... I want the kid to be a good QB, but really?

Rodgers is elite, Smith is a scrub next to him... Supporting cast or not, watch the two guys play. It is night and day.

It's quite hilarious. The blind homers don't want to give any credit to Rodgers. He is, and always has been, inherently better than Smith. I love how people believe that he'd be the same QB as Smith in our situation...that's the dumbest s**t I've ever heard. If that were true, then why not invest ONLY in coaching, lol.
