Agreed. It was a huge mistake selecting Smith. Many people said that on Draft Day.

anyone that thinks different srsly underestimates how valuable it was for him to sit behind Favre and have continuity with an offensive minded head coach for...3 yrs...

Anyone heard of the Butterfly Effect? Say we drafted Rodgers, and hypothetically he won us a few more games in his first couple years.....so with those few more wins, we would have drafted lower. Which possibly would have meant no VD, Crabs, Lawson, Staley or god forbid...Patrick Willis. So no best TE or MLB in the NFL. Therefore you can make a case that drafting Alex and all the bad things that happened, that in all honest we are probably a better team because of it all. So I'll be the first to say it....Thank You Alex and tear it up this year!!!

I wouldn't say that. It's a quarterback league and you have to be smoking some good sh*t if you think we're better off taking a bust over what looks to be a top 3 QB.
Things definetily would be different but I have time believing we'd be worse off.

I disagree. Yes, Alex was thrown into the fire. But now our team is stacked with offensive weapons and a solid defense. If you have the talent, you'll eventually rise to the occassion.
Look at Payton Manning, he was thrown into the fire when he began his career with the Colts and went through a losing record. But he managed to rise to the occassion while his team added talented players...
If the guy has the talent and mental toughness and persistence, he'll rise and overcome the obstacles. If he can't overcome past failures, then we can argue that he doesn't have that winning mentality. No more excuses for Smith this year.
The reason why I doubt Smith is his accuracy is horrible. If you compare other 2nd tier QBs (even Kolb or Schuab) to Smith, just based on accuracy, Smith blows.

So you believe we'd still have Willis, VD, Crabtree, Staley, Lawson, etc.? I'm not saying Rodgers isn't a great QB but things would have been completely different. We may still have Kwame Harris at OT, Derek Smith our MLB, Eric Johnson at TE. Are we better with them and Rodgers or who we have now with Alex?

^^^The big reason why we have a new offense every year cause it wasn't working! For some crazy reason Rodgers made it work. An offense that Smith had a chance to make it happen.
No. Offensive coordinators were being hired away to be head coaches. Nolan then hired the best of who was available (except for Hostler).
McCarthy - hired away to GB
Turner - hired away to SD (Smith showed some promise, I think a better "what if" would be... what if Turner hadn't left)
Hostler - disaster, sucked
Martz - egomaniac, favored his own INT machine in JTO, Nolan's crazy attempt to save his own job. Singletary didn't want him.
Yeah... all Smith's fault.
I realize many of you want Smith gone, that may very well happen after this season.

For some crazy reason majority of those OC coordinators were successful with their new QB's as soon as they were hired.
