Let him sit. Smith is our QB going into next year. That's all it is, so get over it.

If he is then McCloughan needs to be fired immediately, if he isn't (which is obviously the obvious choice) then we can finally move on and become a winning football team again.

you really believe an essentially rookie QB, Nate Davis, will win more games than he loses? You really believe that the QB is the only problem with the team? because that is what you're implying by saying a QB change will lead to a winning team.

Some fans are so delusional and they don't seem to observe the rest of the league. Nate Davis will not provide the immediate success many of you are hoping for. Just because you see a Ben Rothlisberger come in and play well (on a very good team) and a Matt Ryan, doesnt mean that this is the norm. These men are the exception and so many people have been clamoring for the backup ever since Garcia left thinking this person can take a bad team, lacking talent and take it to the playoffs. It just doesnt happen as often as you think.

The team finally has some talent through free agency and the draft because of what McCloughan has done. Yea, he's missed on some players and some players have turned out to be gems. Thats just the way the draft works.

This team was so devoid of talent, it was going to take several years to get it back up to even contention. Because of the weak NFC West, so many people are falsely believing that this team should be in the playoffs. And once this team got in the playoffs, the wouldn't win. They're just not ready yet.

I know that if we selected the right QB in the darn first place we would of made the Playoffs the last 2 years. And we'd be a lot farther along. Our D is good, our O for the most part is good. The biggest problem on this team is we don't have a good quarterback.

You know nothing, you only think you do...big mistake to try to pass your opinion as fact on this site.

I know nothing, I'm just stating fact, our QB is holding us back, hell if we had one we would of blown out Arizona on MNF and blown out Chi-Town on NFL Network, why are we arguing about this, the guy is a chump. As a Niner fan I'm ashamed he's our QB and was selected so high, I mean jeez Title, Brodie, Joe Cool, Young, Garcia, and now this chump... Seriously? We can do better, screw that we have to, but that being said about our QB history, I'll take a decent QB even ie a soon to be FA in Jason Campbell at this point.

There you go again, trying to pass your opinion off as fact...until you learn the difference, there isn't much to talk about. You know no one will take anything you say seriously when you do this, it makes any relevant points you might be able to make moot.

Shaun Hill has a better record as a starter than this guy your unsuccessfully defend. Your defending Scoty Mac for making one of the worst mistakes in franchise history, your defending the guy who is holding our offense for ransom. If 2+2=4. Then the answer is 4, not 5 or up for some biased debate that doesn't make any logical sense. If we go into 2010 with Alex Smith, our offense will be continued to be chained down. If we admit our horrendous mistake, our offense can grow and we can take the next step we need to into become the San Francisco 49ers once again.

but there is no one out there that would come in and do better. Why do people not get this? we can't draft a QB thats going to come in a do better. Nate Davis isn't ready yet.

And a trade would only make sense if we are only a QB away from being a SB contender, which this team isnt. The OL still has issues, there is a lack of speed in the secondary, and the pass rush is inconsistent.

If smith can perform how he has over the last 8 games next year, we'd be fine, especially if the talent on the rest of the team improves.

He performed like he always does. More losses than wins (3-5). 16 TD's and 12 interceptions and 2 fumbles...one lost. He fares miserably in crunch time against good teams. Let's not forget he has been sacked 18 times in half a season because he doesn't know how to utilize an o-line or an NFL pocket. Yah, that's who the 49ers should start in 2010

Ok, so you're blaming that fumble where Snyder got his ass handed to him and beat on smith, ok. Hill had the same thing happen in the opening week. Smith hasn't fumbled for a while.

Two, yea, he hasn't done well in crunch time this year. I'd say thats a fair complaint.

How exactly, tho, are you suppose to "utilize" a pocket when there isn't one in some games? The Eagles game, there was no pocket. There wasn't one really in the Jags game and he still delievered the ball well. Remember the 4th and 1 where smith threw a 30 yarder to VD just as he was getting hit?

The O-line needs to utilize itself and create a pocket for their QB but they just keep getting beat. Some more Max Protect would help to and thats on Raye.

Yup 12 ints. But he still has more TDs. Granted, some of those INTs have been due to badly tipped balls. Smith hasn't had many that you can solely blame on him, but that comes with the territory i suppose.

God bless you and happy holidays to your entire family and all niner fans around the world. We will have to agree to disagree on this one. I want the niners to be a perenial 10-14 win team consistently and I'd like to go to another super bowl.

Expectations had better be ramped up throughout the entire organization. I talk to people young and old. I was speaking with a woman I met a couple days ago and she was twenty years my senior at least. Hardcore niner fan and what do most niner fans want for Christmas. Please send us a QB!!

I am firm in my belief that Drew Brees, or any other solid QB could make this team as it sits a 10 win team. No other changes needed. Just a good QB that can sometimes make something out of nothing which is very handy in today's NFL.

I think there are a lot of good things about this team. And if we had an experienced guy, like Montana or Young in their early thirties, they could perhaps take us to another level. But either of those guys, when 25, would be running for their lives.

We need a decent O line and then things will start to come together. It's the line, people.

God bless you too. I disagree. Green Bay has a worse O-line than us and Rodgers is having a better year. It is the QB.
U know what I say the same thing. Let's All stop making this tEAM to be more than they are.

A winning formula;

top 5 D- no

horrible offenses or good ones, consistently had record games against us.

Top probowl te. yes and no. Yes for td's no becuz of dropped passes and still rust when playing the position.

Wr's dnt fight for the ball. Consistently gets no separation.

10 drops in one game. No49ers squad( winning anyway ever had this in a game. ) this is bout Nate Davis.

But qb or not don't lose site of the other number one issues.

And passrush. Lol. Need I say more. Just fix the qb with these same issues pendng. If u think that u shuld be coachin pop Warner.

Also when our D shuts it down one week then get torched the next. Their just as inconsistent as some sat the qb is.

Finally I actually like Davis and overall I think he will kill when he gets in however I like that he may sit a year or2 and learn the right way.

Leave it to ya'll fans to wanna throw him to the dogs cuz of some personal bias

It's your right to disagree. I don't hold about the GB O line and it is way more complex than a straight comparison.

But here's the kicker. It's a poor draft for qb's. FA or trade? How many Brees's are there?

A. It's the line!

B. There isn't an alternative anyway!

C. Happy Christmas

Too bad for you that he won't even sniff the field until preseason next year, then only as competition to see if he is second or third string.

Colt McCoy just because he could get 40 rushing yards a game could do as good and probably better. Great thing about that uncapped year next year get Campbell or some decent QB to step in, draft a guy like Colt so he can mature as he holds a clipboard. Our O-line pass blocking wize isn't horrible it's decent enough to get the job done, but mos def can get better, the real problem with the O-line is the consistency with the run blocking. We have multiple problems, but problem #1 is the QB, we don't have a good one. Our secondary is good enough to shut down Larry Fitzgerald, like what every single time we play him, least since Nate got here anyway. And if we draft well enough next year, or some one slips through the cracks in FA we can fix that pass rush problem since we get enough of those other guy sacks, ie the 5+ sack department, like Man-Law and Parys or even Brooks, we just need our own Suggs or Orakpo, etc. Problem 1 get a new signal caller.

You think the OL is decent? They're not that good. The secondary may be good enough to shut down fitz, but they didnt shut down Roddy White, Reggie Wayne, Desean Jackson, Greg Jennings, Tim Hightower even, Owen Daniels, Dallas Clark has 99 yards against the team. They've allowed more than 260 yards passing by the opposing team 9 times, 7 for more than 300 yards.

Bulger can't stay healthy. That would do the team no good. Campbell is just as inconsistent as smith is. Colt McCoy? Seriously? What big game has he won? Smith had more yards rushing in college than McCoy does.

QB is a concern, but it's not No. 1. OL, then Secondary/Pass Rush and PR/KR are the big ones. Those can make up for sub-par qb play. If the QB can't be protected, and the Secondary can't catch the opposing receivers and the PRs keep fumbling the Ball, a good QB won't be able to make up for it.

Campbell has had a good year were have you been, whenever he's been given a shot he's delivered. A good QB and we're in the Playoffs, we win in GB, we beat Philly, we beat the Colts, we beat the Titans, hell how many close games have we had, we just don't have a QB to win those games, well we did then Hill stopped playing football for whatever reason then we were screwed. Our defense is not the big problem, we just need to tweak and add a few things, hell we shut down AP and the Cards 2ce, and held an undefeated team to under 20 at their place. We have Staley and Heitmann, we just need to fill in the blanks, guards and right tackles don't usually cost much and we don't give up Green Bay type sacks anyways and we can run the ball well enough. Smith ran in a spread, any one can run with wheels QB's/RB's in a spread hell ask Edge James ie his Indy experience, and McCoy throws much more he just runs when he has to or sees room. Bottom line we need a quarterback, that is our biggest problem, and our biggest weakness.

ok, campbell has had an ok year. Hes got only two more INTs and TDs than smith with 5 more games played. Hes had some really good games (i.e. NO, DET) but some really bad ones too (i.e. KC, TB, NYG). Smith has been made foolish against good teams and he's done well against bad teams.

Run defense has been good all year and the plan was great against Indy but they are still giving up too many big plays and not getting enought turnovers. you say Smith doest come through in the clutch, well there isn't a player on D that does that either.

Those times where he's looked bad are the times where the rest of the team needs to step up and they havent done that all year really. This is why i believe that other aspects of the team need to be addressed first. Build a proper support group around the QB and help make the QB what he needs to be.

Once Campbell had actual NFL plays called for him (ie plays not called by Jim Zorn), he showed he's a good QB. Smith is not a good QB, we need a good one, we have the WR's and TE's and a decent enough line, hell A-Rod the guys we shoulda woulda coulda has no line with the guys to throw to and should be a Pro Bowler this year he's a stud. Alex is a dud, we need a new qb, if we had hell probably even Jeff Garcia assuming he can still play we would be in the Playoffs this year, let alone a Campbell or even A-Rod...

No we wouldn't. Not with that line. Put whoever you want there and the result will be the same:

Goodnight Vienna!

Funny how that makes no sense, cuz both Campbell and A-Rod have worse lines, but are playing better and much better then Alex, respectively.

Yeah yeah yeah. You pop over there and sign either of them, then.

Then we will see how they look behind our line

What is this about our line being sooooooooooo bad we have some problems, but jeez it's not that bad, that line broke Philly's streak in Philly of no 100 yard rusher for however long it was. It's not that bad off, I mean compared to Jason Campbell's line in DC we have a great offensive line are you kidding me. They had Stephon effin Heyer at LT for a while for goodness sake. Just stop defending a dead horse ie Alex Smith, it's over we screwed up, BIG time, not only did we miss out on a stud, we drafted a dud. It's time to move on.

And all this is based on his preseason performances against 3rd string players and some that aren't even in the NFL now
