Matthew Thomas, LB, FSU

6'3", 217 lbs
Senior
22 years old

49ers met with him this week at the Shrine Game.

Fast, long and athletic LB. Could stand a year or two in an NFL weight room and cafeteria, but Thomas has some tools that could be worth developing, especially in Saleh's scheme. He appears to be projected to as a day 3-UDFA player.

edit - tape sucks. Instincts aren't very good. Half-asses plays. Plays frantic with happy feet in coverage. Does not trust his eyes.

Ahh, I now remember why I stopped following him. His effort is inconsistent, and his instincts aren't very good. He'll drop back to his zone and get frantic with happy feet as if he's panicking. I've been spoiled watching Roquan.

I think he's someone that can be coached up. Would be solid value in the mid rounds and someone that could take over Smith's spot a yr from now

I was watching him when it came to mid round LBs and just didn't like what I saw. I think Scales with Indiana shows more flashes when it comes to mid round LBs.
He didn't want to be at fsu during his freshmen season and tried to ditch the team for georgia after signing his LOI. I remember him blaming his sudden change of heart on his mom

Since then, He's had multiple suspensions and off the field drama that was never really talked about but swept under the rug by Jimbo. On top of that, he's constantly injured.

Don't want.

Yikes.

The tape isn't anything to write home about

Matthews could be a LB that the 49ers may be interested in on day 3. He matches their athletic profile. A lot will hinge on the background check and how he does in meetings.

Nice
I saved this when I watched his tape. He consistently gives terrible effort. One of the main reasons I abandoned this thread after visiting the tape lol.

he's #6

Yea you can pick that gif and highlight but thats not what he is

I'd take him as an UDFA.

I'm an FSU fan and this guy just doesn't show up. Not sure if it was the coaching, his lack of effort or a combination of both but he just didn't have a good career at FSU.

I had to look up where FSU finished the season defensively(18th) with all these potential high draft picks from FSU I was gonna be pissed if they weren't top 20 and would say the d coordinator needs to be working at Dairy Queen.
