10 Players I'd Love to See in Red and Gold (March Edition)

For the purposes of this mock, I'm assuming we add Woodson and Asomugha.

Round 1 (#31): Alex Okafor, OLB, Texas... 6'5", 264

Round 2 (#34): Jesse Williams, NT/DT, Alabama... 6'3", 323

Round 2 (#61): Vance McDonald, TE, Rice... 6'4", 267

Round 3 (#74): Da'Rick Rogers, WR, Tennessee Tech... 6'3", 217

Round 3 (#93): Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB, Connecticut... 6'1", 195

Round 3 (COMP): Jordan Reed, TE, Florida... 6'3", 236

Round 4: Matt Scott, QB, Arizona... 6'2", 213

Round 5: Quinton Dial, DT, Alabama... 6'5", 318

Round 5: Dustin Hopkins, K, Florida State... 6'2", 193

Round 6: Reid Fragel, OT, Ohio State... 6'8", 308
Quick question, why two TE's? McDonald would be the more prototypical TE and Reed would be the H-back receiver type. I think a good FS prospect would be the bigger need.

I agree with this. Swap out McDonald for their best board FS. Otherwise, I really, really like this draft!!!

Great job!!

Do you really think Blidi Wreh-Wilson makes it to the third? I like him a lot but he may go the first round

Couldn't disagree more.

The FO will not waste money on a retread vet who will cost more and not even do as good a job as Tolzien would. Are you kidding me!!! What vet??

A 4th round spent on Matt Scott, if he is even there when the time comes, is hardly a waste. It would be a steal. Scott has a skill set that mirrors Kaepernick's. A PERFECT guy to develop while on the roster as a third stringer.

You've got a point about DE help, but I doubt that a 4th round DE would be better than guys the Niners already have on the roster. Dobbs, for example.

I wouldn't mind swapping out Okafor for Datone Jones in the first, if he was even there. But the Niners also need top grade OLB help to spell their OLBs. Dumervil would be a great FA pick-up for that purpose, but would cost too much. Can't have everything.

We all have our thoughts N I just add mine N I didn't mean use a 4th round on a DE maybe a TE or O-line help but I still think we don't need a QB atleast in this draft keap needs all our coaches time he's good N goin to be great but still raw N needs developing N a vet QB could help N its always what happens always need a vet ...
Why would we draft an OLB in the 1st? Okafor is a great talent and if he is there at #31, he could be the BPA. But I doubt we'd pick him unless Baalke views him as a significant upgrade over Brooks (who is locked up till 2016 I believe)... even then, it's far fetched.

I'd prefer Datone Jones or Jonathan Banks at that pick. The rest of the draft looks good. I LOVE the Jesse Williams and Da'Rick Rogers picks (though I doubt Rogers is there at 74). Little high for a backup TE, I think. But McDonald is a good choice.
As for players I'd love to see in red & gold:

Datone Jones (DE from UCLA)
Jesse Williams (NT from Alabama)
Da'Rick Rogers (WR from Tennessee Tech)
Bacarri Rambo (FS from Georgia)
Travis Kelce (TE from Cincinatti)
Dustin Hopkins (K from Florida State)

Don't care how we use the other draft picks.... hopefully to position ourselves to actually get these guys).
Can't remember where I heard it but one of the reporters was stating the 49ers will go away from 2 TE sets (installed more for Alex Smith) and go with more 3 WR sets to take advantage of Colin Kaepernick's cannon. If true, this was one of the reasons why they didn't make a bigger case to keep Delanie Walker.

Also think Safety will be a focal point in this draft, so I'm not really feeling your picks #1 or #3.

I considered going FS, but if we add Woodson to go along with Dahl, I don't see where one fits. I'm OK with Woodson, Whitner, Dahl, Spillman, and Robinson provided we upgrade the pass rush.

McDonald is actually more of an H-back type as well. Rice used him on tight end arounds, as he had 7 carries in his career. Not your average 6'4", 267-pound TE.

I went with two TEs because I think replacing Delanie is priority number one (assuming we add Woodson), and I'm pretty unimpressed with Garrett Celek.

BPA. And you can never have enough pass rushers. As we witnessed firsthand, we're an Aldon Smith injury away from being completely ineffective at applying pressure.
