$11.5 in current salary cap space

Additional Resignnings - $2.5M in spending for 2013

Larry Grant - ILB | 2 year, $3M
Tarvares Gooden - ILB | 2 year, $2M

Extensions - $4M in savings for 2013

Justin Smith - DT/DE - 2 year extension

Free Agency - $6M in spending for 2013

Kenny Phillips - S - Giants | 2 year, $6M
*Replacement for Goldson, Phillips is an all-around good safety that plays the ball very well. He has injury concerns though.

Aubrayo Franklin - NT - Chargers | 2 year, $3M
*Franklin showed flashes of his old self on a pretty decent Chargers defense. With RJF following the money, and Sopoaga flat out sucking last year, I think we revisit Franklin as an option for our primary NT position.

Ramses Barden - WR - Giants | 1 year, $600K
*With his history of injuries, I doubt Barden sees a lucrative offer in free agency. That being said, he showed some flashes in 2012-2013. Low risk, high reward type signing.

Josh Johnson - QB - Browns | 1 year, $600K
*With Smith gone, we need competition for the backup gig.

NFL Draft -

*Trade 1st, 3rd (via Panthers), and 6th round picks for Vikings 1st and 4th round picks; Vikings trade down and select DeAndre Hopkins*

R1: Datone Jones - DT/DE - UCLA (via Vikings)
*Immediate contributor on special teams and rotational playing time to spell McDonald and Smith. Future successor to Justin Smith.

R2: Matt Elam - S - Florida (via Chiefs)
*Strong and physical safety but very good in coverage. Makes up his short stature with good ball skills.

*Trade 2nd, 3rd, and 6th round picks for Steelers 2nd round pick: they trade down to snag more picks as they are rebuilding*

R2: Da'Rick Rogers - WR - Tennessee Tech (via Steelers)
*Rogers has the size and physical WR skills we desperately need on our offense.

R4: Gavin Escobar - TE - San Diego St. (via Vikings)
*6-6 TE with solid hands, but must improve as a blocker. Replacement for Delanie Walker.

R4: Ricky Wagner - OT - Wisconsin
*Swing backup OT. Bolsters depth, and Wagner can come in as an extra blocker on certain packages.

R4: Montori Hughes - NT - Tennessee-Martin (comp)
*Future successor at NT. Shadows Franklin for at least 1 year.

R5: Dustin Hopkins - K - Florida State (via Colts)
*We need a kicker and he's the best in the draft.

R5: Micah Hyde - CB/FS - Iowa
*Speed is a concern, but he tackles and plays the ball well. Competes with Trumaine Brock.

R7: Michael Williams - TE - Alabama (via Bengals)
*Opposite of Escobar - bad hands, but great blocker. Special teams value.

R7: Nick Williams - DT/DE - Samford
*Competes with Dobbs for the DE spot on the roster.

R7: Colby Cameron - QB - LA Tech (comp)
*PS candidate

R7: Matt Tucker - RB - TCU (comp)
*Competes with Dixon for the final RB/FB roster spot. PS candidate.

Depth Chart:

QB: Kaepernick/Tolzien/Johnson* PS: Cameron*
RB: Gore/Hunter/James PS: Tucker*

CB: Brown/Cox/Brock
FS: Phillips*/Spillman

ST: Hopkins, Lee, Jennings
I like the idea of getting Barden cheap because all our WRs are short. I've been wanting a Plaxico-like target to diversify our looks in the red zone.

To that end, I also like the idea of getting a tall TE with good hands, but I still think we will end up keeping Delanie because I don't think he'll get any big offers because of his hands. I want him back cheap as a ST player and blocking specialist H-back.

I don't know much about Phillips, but I don't mind the approach you took to safety, replacing Goldson with a cheaper veteran and drafting an eventual SS replacement.
Nice mock. For some reason I think we will sign a good CB or draft one early. But overall I like the additions to the Safety positions.
Nice mock.

Really like Barden [only for cheap]

Never liked Josh. AbFranklyn - is a maybe - I'd prefer Sammy Lee Hill - who is as big as a hill

The first 3 pick are solid. I think Da'Rick is going to be a star.

Smart move getting Hopkins n the 5th.
Hate it.

Delaine walker is vital to our offense and we need him to create mismatches.

We still haven't addressed the no. 2 wr. Barden is a flash in the pan and shouldn't be relied on.

Goodwin should be a cap casualty and be released and replaced by Kilgore.

Kenny Phillips is good and I like his addition if Goldson doesn't return. That said, we better do much more to improve secondary or we will be worse off than we were last year.

Again, I think bringing back Franklin is a boring idea. Soap played adequately last season, although I think he would be better off playing end.

In summation, this mock does little to improve our two most positions of need, Wr and secondary, and I would be personally disappointed if this were to play out.
Not sure why we try to predict who we will resign or extend a contract to and for how much. Nobody outside of the Niner's HO has any information about who we will spend our money on and to make a guess equals a complete waste of time IMO. Let's just stick to Mock drafts as they are hard enough to predict.
Phillips is always hurt. Pass on Franklin and Barden. I like the draft but the free agency is a mess

Tell me how you really feel...

I have a strong feeling Alex Smith is going to recruit Delanie Walker in KC. He could thrive in that system playing under Andy Reid. Would I like to see Walker back? Absolutely, but I think he'll be able to get a starting gig and more money somewhere else.

You completely ignored the 2nd round pick of Da'Rick Rogers - WR. That bolsters our unit quite a bit. Along with Barden, development of Jenkins, and recovery of Williams and Manningham, I'm not sure how else Baalke can improve the unit without shelling out a large contract to Mike Wallace.

I'm not excited about the Franklin signing myself, but with our NTs only seeing the field for 30-40% a game, boring isn't a big deal, they just have to do their job well. I'm a huge Sammie Hill fan myself, don't get me wrong. I hope we go after him. But I think Baalke will see he can draft a DL player for half the cost. Datone Jones will provide a punch along the d-line, and Hughes will help plug the middle and learn the ropes.

I admit that addressing the CB is a weakness in this mock.

There is ample evidence to suggest you shouldn't rely on a rookie Wr to produce much of anything in his first season.

I would prefer a more urgent approach to our team this offseason. Ie. trade a 2nd round pick for Percy harvin or derrelle revis. Go out and sign j. Cribbs.

With all the ammo we have for the draft, we need to package picks for the pieces that may put us over the top.

Enough of the build through the draft philosophy. We've done that. It's what rebuilding teams should do. The niners are built to win now, we just need that extra bit to put us over the top.
I guess she hawks took my advice and traded for Percy harbinger.
