I' ve concluded that DL Jesse Williams is 'my guy' at #32 ( or near there)

I'm all in Nick, Jesse is from Australia and is a former rugby player. Nicknamed the "Monstar" at Bama, 6'4, 320 he would bring youth and power to the line. Don't think he will be there but if falls into the 20's range they could make a deal.

One thing we cannot continue to do is keep our stars on the field for so many plays. getting Parys Haralson back will help with the linebacker rotation and hopefelly the Fleming kid from last year will be healthy and stick there too. So getting more Dline depth is crucial. Then i'd look for another Big fast TE as i think Delanie is a goner and a Big Corner.
Delanie doesn't really play tight end -- he plays h-back. And there's nobody in this year's draft with Walker's measurables (fast, wide-bodied). nobody. Jordan Reed might be the closest, but he does not have Walker's 4.5 speed.
Why do you comment on this guys post about finding a Walker replacement, then start a thread about.......a Walker replacement?

I like Jesse Williams a lot. However, I like him first and foremost as a run stuffing NT. Can he play DE in our system? Probably. But, I think his greatest value is in the middle. Having said that, I would absolutley take him with our first pick if he is there.

I started this thread. somebody brought up Tight end. I answered him - then started a separate topic because, you know, TE/H-Back and DL are not the same thing.

Don't think he will be around at 32. Should have a monster combine, and see his star rising. Predicting at least 40 reps at 225, and a forty in the 4.95-5.05 range.

No s**t? They aren't the same? Never knew. Well maybe you should have been more clear in your post to the other poster. You make it sound like Delanie doesn't have a replacement in this draft and make it sound like you expect him to stay. Then, you turn around and started a new thread about Delanie's replacement.

At #32, you draft guys with some limitations -- but Williams can grow into an NT down the line, which has value.
I'm kind of tired of people demanding a defensive lineman that can rush the passer in a 3-4 defense. Look, if you want a guy that can rush the passer AND hold the point of attack with a solid 5-technique, he's going in the top 10 of the draft!
And if you just want a guy that can rush the passer, might as well switch to a 4-3, or a "not really a 3-4" 3-4 defense that Wade Phillips runs.
Not true at all, there happened to be two guys like that drafted in the second round last year, Derek Wolfe and Kendall Reyes. They can be found, generally they won't be polished, very few defensive lineman are, but what you want is somehow who at least has those skills somewhat developed. People who were good pass rushers in college have an easier time becoming good passers rushers in the NFL.
Datone Jones is the best fit for a potential replacement of Justin Smith, who would be available in the late 1st round. He's got the whole package and would be a ready rotational player that could hold up against the run and get to the quarterback, and based on that threat, occupy blockers to allow others to get to the QB. If anything, he's somewhat underweight, but considering his size, he'll be able to add another 10 pounds or so and be good to go.
Jesse Williams is a space eater, he's a good fit as a DE in the Steelers system where they simply look for containment from their DE's, or a good fit at NT for the 49ers to be a potential upgrade of Soap. If the 49ers were to take him, I suspect it would be as an NT, unless Fangio has some sort of crazy meltdown after a week-long coke binge and decides to restructure his defense.

Actually Sheldon Richardson is the best 3-4 DE prospect in the draft, and possibly Star Lotulelei, depending on where you see him playing in the pro's, Datone Jones is the best pure fit for the 49ers in the area where they'll be picking.

I do not understand someone being sick and tired of arm chair general managers who want it all!!! We want Justin Smith at pick 32, let me put down my bong and say that even without taking a hit, the 9ers will not get a Justin Smith at pick 32. However I am with the other posters that I would prefer a 5 technique 3-4 DE over a NT. The NFL is rapidly evolving into a hurry up offense that has gone from 60 offensive plays up to 90. Thus you need studs on DL that have endurance. This is why you need a 5 technique that can stuff the run, get edge containment and rush the passer.

williams though not a great pass rusher, could aid the pass rush if he can tie up blockers to free up aldon smith like justin smith does...
