We should trade for a lower 1st round pick, and grab the best 3-4 DE available

It's obvious Justin Smith is a BIG part of what we do ....when he missed the entire 4th quarter, his absence was sorely missed

So we should seriously consider doing what it takes to grab the best 3-4 DE in the draft , we need to draft and groom his successor ASAP

what do you guys think ? ...maybe trade away our 1st and a couple other early round picks to secure a D-Lineman we know will make the squad, and contribute right away , Cowboy will start slowing down soon , due to his age and wear & tear , so we need to find his replacement for down the road
I want to draft a DE. Smith still plays at an insanely high level but we need to start planning for his replacement

Ask me or SunDevilNiner about Will Sutton 3-4 DE from Arizona State. So hope he declares, he'd be another 1st rounder that sits and the bench or rotates (causing people to b***h a la AJ Jenkins or LMJ) but he'd be worth it!!!!! Give him a year or 2 behind Justin and we wouldn't miss a beat when Cowboy retires.
I agree, as I agreed 2 yhrs. ago. I really wish we start drafting for depth and the future more. I think w? Sopoaga leaving this off- season (age and too much $$$), we need to draft a NT and a RDE..
I've also been saying for a while that we need a better DLine rotation.

RJF played well BUT not well enough to make a statement like Justin does. The wear and tear is starting to show.

I feel getting the best DE and NT will be critical for our future.

Thanks monsterzero for mentioning guys to keep our eyes on.
This!

I would be happy using a 1st and maybe a 2nd or one of the thirds on D-line; our lack of depth and youth there is, our most glaring weakness.

We drafted two OLBs who will have had a year of NFL learning and training so at least one of them should be ready to rotate in next season.

With (hopefully) three 3rds we could then be in a position to package them to move up and grab a stud, trade up for next year or just get BPA ideally an extra DB.

We have a stacked roster and have a bunch of draft picks, we should be packaging them to get a few top talents or trading them to improve our draft position next year. I highly doubt even 7 rookies could make it onto our roster so there is no point using our picks for players that we will more than likely cut or might get picked up from the practice squad
This draft is void of franchise players, and deep for solid starter player. Thus the Niners are in perfect position picking where they are in round 1, potentially trading up in round 2, and getting depth rounds 3 and beyond.

Not doubt the team needs a NT and DE coming out of the draft. The team also needs a back up TE, and potentially a starting safety if Goldson leaves.
DE, CB, C, TE, try to package our later rnd picks to move up to the third and second rnds. we should have an extra 2nd or 3rd from trading alex!

Right now I think there is a really good chance we take a DL in the 1st. Probably DE, small shot at NT if sopoaga is gone and if they want RJF at DE. Need a pass rusher and someone who can give breathers and eventually take over for Justin.

Then other needs would be OLB, CB, 3rd T, versatile C/G guy, #2 TE (assuming walker is gone), WR, QB (if alex is gone/no fa) maybe 4th RB/ST guy to upgrade over Dixon, S depth, K (if we don't go through FA), maybe return specialist or other special teams aces.

As for moving up it's a possibility with a 1, 2, 3, 3 but I'd rather stay put on all 4 of those picks. Get good depth/future starters. Use the 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7 to trade up and maybe get another 4th or 5th since we will also have like 2 comp picks to use which can't be traded.

I agree!

I'd be all for using the #1 and Carolina's #3 to move up if a guy is there that could be a replacement for Justin in a couple of years and rotate in for a play or 2 here and there to rest him and Aldon.

I'd also be for using our #2 on a TE that can run decent routes and can catch the dam ball so that we can dump Walker. Two TE set like the Pats run would fit great with our team.

Would still have a 3rd for a db and then its superbowl for years to come.

I'd be totally psyched with Will Sutton, I think he's going to make a fantastic pro player but he won't be a guy who I see contributing right away, he's going to have to add some weight as right now he's somewhere in the 275 range supposedly. I don't doubt that he can put on the weight and he's got a non-stop motor and by all accounts is a hard worker and very good locker room guy.

My ideal scenario right now would be to grab Jesse Williams and Will Sutton with our first two picks. That's a dream scenario because both will probably be gone by the time we pick in the 2nd round, but maybe a trade down and then another trade up could get it done.
Time to trade up for Cowboy's understudy and no need to look any farther than his alma mater of Mizzou. If Sheldon Richardson checks out in the intangibles category, we have the ammunition to trade up for him in the 10-20 area of the first round.

I think he might go too early, but from everything I've seen of him, he's going to be an absolute beast at the pro level as well, his motor is insane, he doesn't quit or give up on plays, he's got this crazy bulldog mentality that he'll never quit fighting, very explosive and talented, would not be upset in the slightest if he somehow fell to the 49ers or if they were able to trade up for him.
