What position do we target in the first round next year? | Page 11

Our 3 main players whose contracts expire at the end of the year are Rogers, Edwards, and Goldson...am I missing anyone? Obviously if we lose any of those guys, that position will likely be addressed with our first round pick. But if we re-sign all 3, which I think is very likely (especially Rogers and Goldson, barring Rosenhaus wanting like $20M guaranteed), I can't imagine what position we would take in the 1st round. MAYBE a center to groom for after Goodwin? Perhaps a guard (Rachal is gonna be a free agent also and as it is his status is tenuous to say the least)? I just feel like our roster is so stacked right now and there really is no position group that's a glaring weakness. Great problem to have. I think a sleeper could be OLB again. A. Smith will start at ROLB in 2012. 2012 1st rounder would be LOLB of the future (or even start as a rookie), relegating Brooks to a role of being a solid back-up/d-end on nickel. Haralson, if he makes the team next year, would be the 4th OLB (a luxury we don't possess this year). But then again, Brooks has been playing very well this year so who the hell knows?

I don't think the FS or SS answer is in this years class. CB maybe but we have to see who is there.....I'm really wanting a trade back to get more bodies on the roster.

I don't think we can go wrong with a CB, WR, RG/C/OL, FS (If Goldson leaves) as long as we get a starter and don't miss on the pick.

Totally agree, Kilgore, Boone and Pearson should all progess and be able to step up next year.

#1 wr is a must: We drop too many balls, our wr's don't get open quick enough or often enough and not one of them demands a double team.

If we had a true #1 that required a double, it would free up Vernon to tear up the middle again. He's been pretty much taken out of our O because of this problem.

Those cheering for a WR....buyer beware. First round wide receivers are a shaky proposition once you see the first couple guys off the board. You are much more likely to hit on an interior lineman.

With the health of Snyder and the disappointment of Rachal, OG is started to grow on me. But would much rather go CB in the 1st and WR in the 2nd.

And another WR later, say around 5th. Get a guard through FA, no waiting for development.

Goldson was late getting over to Fitz on the first TD... a short coming he has had in the past.

Go back and watch him in the past few games. Teams are easily shoving him back. I can understand that against Ngata in Baltimore, but it happened in the Ram game and again yesterday.

New Orleans drafted a new center and let him walk. Now we can see why. He made the Pro Bowl in their Super Bowl year but it was largely a result of riding the wave, not his own ability.

Center/guard has risen to the top of my perceived needs. Close behind that is a big, fast receiver, hopefully both in the same guy but if not, then we need TWO receivers.

Given where the 49ers are likely to be drafting, I suspect they will get more value with a center than anything else. Nick Mangold was the 30th pick in the first round and he has been money for the Jets. Another Mangold out there in the late 20s?

Add me to the list wanting an interior lineman in this upcoming draft. These o-lineman don't seem to be able to handle the blitz very well. Lately, I've seen teams bringing major pressure with alarming regularity (copying the Ravens).....and its continually working. The o-line leaks all over the place. It's actually quite alarming how few attempts Smith has in a game where his lineman are able to form a nice pocket and give him time to read defenses....particularly in the red zone.

A speed receiver would be nice. Someone with Ginn's speed, but who knows how to play wide receiver. It's embarrassing to watch our WR's not know where the f'ing ball is....
