His stock will rise if he can run a fast 40...seems a bit too slow to make it in the 1st.

yes. agreed. he is smaller than merriman. however, he has already showed that he can hold his own against "Big 12" O-tackles. that says alot. plus, a nfl strengh and conditioning coach could help him develop. maybe adding 8 ibs per year.
Here's how his measurables stack up to some dominant NFL pass rushers....
VON MILLER
Height: 6-3
Weight: 240
NFL PASS-RUSHERS
1. Clay Matthews (Packers)
Height: 6-3
Weight: 255
2010 sacks: 12.5
2. Cameron Wake ( Dolphins)
Height : 6-3
Weight: 250
2010 sacks: 14 (nfl best)
3. Shaun Phillips (chargers)
Height: 6-3
Weight: 250
2010 sacks: 11
as you can see, his measurables are similar

he will be a mid to late first round pick and only (and most) of the 3-4 teams will be after him
honestly id rather have quinn hes a beast he can play 3-4 and 4-3 great speed height weight ratio

Exactly. Height is not a big deal unless you can't see over the DL/OL. Dumervil is short but he's compact which means he can take a beating.
Miller has 4 inches on Dumervil but weighs 10+ lbs less than him. 3-4 OLB have been big for a reason. There aren't too many successful 3-4 OLBers who are 240 lbs or less.

Nice work man! To say a 6-3 240+ OLB is to skinny and small is rediculous.

I'll be very curious to see Miller measure in at the senior bowl or combine. Guys usually lose inches/lbs off the school's stats.
I've seen him listed at 235 lbs. That's small for an OLB in a 3-4. The height I have no issues with.
If he can add bulk and keep his speed I'd feel better about him but the few times I've seen him play he didn't stand out so much. I specifically paid attention to him last year hoping we'd draft OLB early and outside of a speed rush I didn't see much from him in big games.
Besides we have the #7 pick. He's not worth that. Robert Quinn is a much better option that high if we're to go OLB.

I am not sold we will stay in the 3-4. We fit the 4-3 better with our current players. Teams figured out bow to neutralize Willis this year. The 4-3 protects him better for plays.

If we stick at the 7 spot and still want to take a pass rusher, I'd take Ryan Kerrigan over Von Miller.

Kerrigan at #7 overall....
Quinn is by far the best option for OLB early in this draft despite his suspension.
I do think we may/should consider the switch to a 4-3 D if teams ahead of us get QB happy and someone like Da'Quan Bowers falls. Marcell Dareus wouldn't be a bad choice either.
Nick Fairley would be a pipe dream but a good one.

Truthfully, I want a QB at #7, but I said that if the Niners are still interested in a pass rusher, Kerrigan would be a better choice over Von Miller. I like Quinn a lot but I don't see him falling to our spot.
Why exactly don't you like Kerrigan? If you compare Quinn's 2009 stats to Kerrigan's 2009 stats, they were pretty similar.
Quinn 2009:
Tackles - 52
Tackles for Loss - 19
Sacks - 11
Kerrigan 2009:
Tackles - 65
Tackles for Loss - 17
Sacks - 11
And keep in mind that Purdue is garbage and Kerrigan got double teamed continuously. Quinn, not taking anything away from him cus he's a beast, was surrounded by much better talent on the North Carolina squad.

I like Kerrigan just not so high. He's a hardnosed guy who gets good production but Quinn imo has a higher ceiling and great size. I also think Quinn would translate better to a 3-4 OLB but also has the size to play 4-3 DE if we went that direction.
IMO both guys are fairly close right now but when spending a top 10 pick on a player you want the guy who has more potential and Quinn has that. He's more versatile imo than Kerrigan. I was pissed when he was suspended this year but maybe it's a blessing in disguise.

I think Kerrigan will surprise a lot of people. He consistently got better each year in Purdue despite their lack of talent. His stats this year were a lot better than last year's. He plays quick and has very good hands. He played standing up sometimes but didn't show any coverage skills since he was mainly rushing the QB.
I wouldn't be mad if we selected Kerrigan. Quinn would be great too if he happened to fall to us.

I don't see it happening especially if we get Harbaugh. He runs a 3-4 in Stanford.

I am confused, is hiring the DC and other coaches up to the HC or GM?
