Yep.

The days of huge safeties are gone ... teams pass so much now you need two guys back there that can cover and have good range.

Goldson is good enough in run support to play SS and have Earl play FS.

Who's asking for huge safeties. We're asking for safeties that can tackle, that can intimidate.

You don't need 2 "intimidating" safeties only one. Matter of fact you dont NEED an intimidating safety in the aspect of tackling. Forcing turnovers is just as intimidating as hitting actually more because the QB will hesitate to go that way. Draft Thomas move Goldson to SS and we should be set. Not to mention Goldson has no problem laying the wood.

Heard of the term 'Weakest Link'?

A normal 10 yard pass = 60 yard catch and run thanks to a miss tackle. No thanks. Not from a 1st round pick.

Better than not even being in position to make the tackle.

Right now one of our biggest weaknesses on D is that we give up too many big pass plays. And the way I see it, a lot of that is because we don't have sufficient safety help. That's what we need to fix.

Why can't we get a safety that can both cover AND tackle? Earl Thomas isn't the only safety in the draft you know. Heard of Reshad Jones? Morgan Burnett? Nate Allen, etc..

I like Nate Allen if we can get him in the 2nd.

Watch the 2nd Seattle game or the Vikings game and tell me you like what you see at safety from us. 2 games that we could've won with better safety play. Or maybe we should get Taylor Mays and get no coverage and no wrap up tackling either but at least he can intimidate

Ward are two that would be a better fit. Thomas would be a good FS but his tackling is too suspect for a last line of defense player!

We already have one of the best run support SS in Lewis. (he went to the pro bowl early in his career for those that forgot) His weakness is pass coverage which is also our teams weakness. Goldson is pretty good at pass coverage for a FS and would be great at pass coverage for a SS. We also wouldn't be giving up too much in run support by moving him there. (Just ask the Cardinals) So therefore, by drafting Thomas we upgrade 2 positions on our defense and our biggest weakness of pass coverage where as if we draft another run stopper SS, even if he improves on Lewis which is improbable especially early in his career it still doesn't make our defense that much better.

No he isn't. He's just about the same size as Bethea and Ed Reed. Jeez man you don't even know what you're talking about.

So, if we don't draft Thomas, we are stuck with the same safeties from last year? For a list of REAL safeties, see post above.

couldn't disagree with you more. we need a FS and not a SS. goldson does NOT equal to a FS. he's not fast enough and doesn't have the ballhawking skills a FS needs.

Berry or Thomas is good for me but I'd rather have Berry any day of the week over THomas
Tell that to Ed Reed. Earl is a true center fielder. I'd be happy with Earl. Besides RT we don't have many holes and thats why we are going to draft BPA.
