Like I said, right now I'm gonna go with Taylor Mays, to tell you the truth I haven't really watched enough of Berry to make a judgement. And besides, Berry has not declared for the draft yet, yes, he took out that 3 million dollar insurance policy, but that still does not convince me. If Berry has a bad year, really doubt he would come out. I need to watch more of Berry, instead of making my decision off a couple youtube clips. So far I've seen that hes a hard hitter and will come up to support the run and is solid in zone coverage. What they don't show is, does he often gamble too much and take bad angles and give up big plays, does he tend to miss a lot of tackles, how is he in man coverage??

Hopefully the 2010 draft is the draft that we finally solve our FS issues, I'm, not sold on Goldson by any means. We are one injury away from seeing Mark Roman back on the field, boooooo.

No, no, no, no, and he also plays the nickel. I am the opposite of you, I have not watched very many USC games, but I have seen every game Berry has played in. He is a great player, and not a single off the field problem. He reminds me of a Patrick Willis at the safety position; he just doesn’t seem to have any flaws. He is one of those extremely rare players that makes big plays without giving up any.

They both seem to be great players, I just wonder if Mays is so big that teams may want him to play linebacker in the NFL.

if your not sold on goldson, why do you go for mays. fs NEEDS TO BE A BALL HAWK, THATS NOT WHAT MAYS IS.. FRANKLY HE GOT CLOWNED BY BERRY IN THAT CATEGORY. oops....... mays would be a good replacement for lewis not fs, ss. i dont want someone steppin in that will get as many picks as roman. 0. mays is a baller but we need a hawk now. and mays is not a hawk.
I'm at the head of the Taylor Mays bandwagon and I'm staying that way. Everyone else can hop on sooner or later.

I won't go into why Taylor had so few INTs - the fact that he was forced to play a safety valve roll on D, or the fact that no one threw at him - because I've gone through those before.

Rest assured that 6'4, 230 pound safeties that run a 4.28 don't come around a lot. Especially ones that are more than just a pure athlete.

Berry is a special player, but so is Mays. Can't really go wrong with either of them, but I prefer the Trojan.

Well for the simple fact that I have watched Mays, like I mentioned in my earlier reply. Mays good range, solid in Zone and man coverage, I wouldn't just use interceptions as a measuring stick. From the FS position he does come up to support the run a lot. In the end, who's to say Mays won't end a season with 5-7 picks.

Like I said, until Berry actually declares for the draft, and I get a chance to watch him this season, my vote goes to Taylor Mays.

Thanks for the input, Berry will be probably the #1 player I'll be watching the season. I've been on a couple of draft forums, and they say Berry is the best Safety prospect to come out in a long time. Seems we would have to jump into the top 5 to get him, the way I see people describe him. I also heard that Berry was a track star in high school and people are almost guaranteeing he will post a 4.40 forty. If he does that, we would most likely have to trade up for him, which I doubt McCloughan would be willing to.

Yep - Im one of the biggest USC supporters on this board, and my vote undoubtedly goes to Berry... Im not even certain that Mays goes in the first round next year unless he starts to create more turnovers... His hits are absolutely bone-crushing though, which makes me feel like he would be a solid future replacement for M. Lewis at SS.

did mays really caus ethat many turnovers, he sure did get clowned by berry in picks

Than by your logic, Peyton Manning wouldn't of won the Super Bowl, and Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush should be Super Bowl MVP's.

I just find it hard to watch those highlight videos with that rubbish some call music.

I like the elite skills Berry has. Either way, if we are in a position to take Mays or Berry, we are in for a long season. They should both go in the top 10.

We can hope the Panthers suck and net us a top 10-15 pick but I wont worry about that until our season is over.

More important than the safety position, we need to make sure we have a star QB. We are not going very far if we don't have a stud at QB. Unless we put together a defense like the Ravens had when they won the SB, but I don't see that happening this year.

I'm guessing even if Goldson picks off 3-4 passes, this will still be the question heading into the 2010 draft.

I'd hate to be the person to make this decision if both of them are there when our pick comes up.

First things first though, Berry has to declare for the draft. So until then, I'm gonna say Mays.

if that is the case I would say pick Berry and then trade back up for Mays

now if we did that mays ss and berry fs..... that would be nice for 6-10 years.
Taylor Mays... Hands down. I'll say it.... Ronnie Lott junior. or at least the potential to be.
stat wise mays is a victim of his own success! usc gave up 1 deep pass all last season!! 1! now that may be cuz mays was concusing everywideout that went deep but teams gameplaned around mays!
