For the second-straight year, San Francisco 49ers defensive end
Arik Armstead's season has come to an early end. The team placed him on injured reserve on Tuesday and also released tight end Logan Paulsen, creating two vacant roster spots which the 49ers filled by signing two defensive linemen –
Tony McDaniel and
Leger Douzable. Both signings were reported earlier on Tuesday.
Armstead broke his hand in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins and will require surgery. Last year,
Armstead was placed on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury.

The San Francisco 49ers have made it official: the team announced the release of defensive tackle Arik Armstead with a June 1 designation. This means the $18 million salary-cap savings will hit the 49ers' books later. However, Armstead is free to sign with any team immediately.
While San Francisco approached Armstead about taking a pay cut from his scheduled $17.41 million base salary, a deal could not be reached, leading to the release of the team's longest-tenured current player.
