The San Francisco 49ers are signing free agent defensive lineman Tony McDaniel, per his agent. He participated in a workout for the team on September 13.

The 49ers may be without defensive end Arik Armstead, who suffered a broken hand on Sunday against the Washington Redskins. He will require surgery on his hand and is a candidate to be placed on injured reserve.

McDaniel has spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints, and two stints with the Seattle Seahawks. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent who was signed by the Jaguars in 2006. McDaniel, who is in his 12th NFL season, has 271 tackles, 11.5 sacks, a safety, and 18 passes defensed over his career.
