The San Francisco 49ers announced on Saturday that they have promoted cornerback Asa Jackson to the active roster. To make room, the team has waived cornerback Keith Reaser.

Jackson, 27, will wear jersey number 30. He was originally signed by the 49ers on August 8 and then released on September 2 during the team's 53-man roster cut-down before being signed to the practice squad.

Jackson appeared in all four preseason games for the 49ers and registered seven tackles, three passes defensed, and two interceptions in those games. Both of his interceptions came against the Los Angeles Chargers on August 31.

Jackson entered the NFL as a fifth-round draft pick out of Cal Poly by the Baltimore Ravens in 2012. He was part of the Ravens team that beat the 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII. Jackson was released by Baltimore in September of 2015 and then re-signed to their practice squad before being added to the active roster in October of 2015.

A month later, Jackson was waived by Baltimore following an ankle injury. He bounced between the Cincinnati Bengals and Arizona Cardinals before, once again, landing with Baltimore in October of 2016, where he spent time between the practice squad and the active roster.

In December of 2016, Jackson was signed by the Detroit Lions off of Baltimore's practice squad and then later placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury.

Over his five-year NFL career, Jackson has 37 combined tackles, eight assists, and four passes defensed, according to NFL.com. He has 22 career games with eight starts. Six of those starts came with Baltimore and two from last season with Detroit.

Reaser was a fifth-round draft pick by the 49ers out of Florida Atlantic in 2014. He has appeared in 29 games and registered 37 tackles, five passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and four tackles on special teams throughout his NFL career.
