The NFL fined 49ers linebacker Fred Warner more than $41,000 for two separate plays last week that the league deemed “unnecessary roughness.”Warner, a four-time first-team All-Pro player, received a fine of $23,882 for a play that the NFL ruled was illegal use of his helmet on a hit against Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride. Warner was flagged for unnecessary roughness on the play.
Warner was fined for a “hip drop tackle” in the fourth quarter against McBride. That play, which was not penalized at the time, brought a fine of $17,911 for Warner. Those were the first two fines of the season for Warner.
Warner was credited with 17 tackles in the 49ers’ 36-30 victory over the Cardinals in Week 3.
