No teams calling 49ers about Mac Jones draft-night trade surprised Kyle Shanahan

SANTA CLARA — The 49ers’ brain trust remains confident Mac Jones will be on San Francisco’s roster heading into the 2026 NFL season. Coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to Bay Area media after the first day of the 2026 NFL Draft and confirmed the 49ers did not receive any calls from teams interested in trading for the quarterback. “I’d be real surprised if he’s not [part of the team],” Shanahan said. “It also really surprised me that no one came and offered something today. But that fact that no one did, doesn’t make me think that someone’s going to do something tomorrow, and his value has probably passed anyways.” Jones started eight games for the 49ers in 2025 when Brock Purdy was unable to play due to a lingering toe injury.
