There has been a lot of conversation this week surrounding wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. There were high expectations for the second-year San Francisco 49ers player. However, in the regular-season opener, Aiyuk surprisingly split playing time with new 49ers wideout Trent Sherfield. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has explained that much of that is due to Aiyuk's earlier hamstring injury. That presented Sherfield with an opportunity, and the former Arizona Cardinal took advantage. The 49ers' offensive coordinator wanted to dispel any rumors that the young receiver might be in the team's doghouse. "In-house with the 49ers, it's not like he's in the doghouse at all or anything,"

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided several injury updates during a conference call this afternoon. Among them was confirmation that cornerback Jason Verrett would miss the remainder of the season after suffering a torn ACL on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. A surprising injury update was that running back Raheem Mostert will miss about eight weeks after sustaining some chipped knee cartilage. He exited the game in the first half and was replaced by rookie Elijah Mitchell. The 49ers spent two draft picks on running backs. In addition to Mitchell, a sixth-round pick, the team drafted Trey Sermon out of Ohio State in the third round.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan joined KNBR's Murph & Mac show this morning and threw cold water on the heated rumors that wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is in his doghouse. The second-year player had an impressive rookie campaign last season, and high expectations prefaced his sophomore NFL season. In Week 1, Aiyuk split playing time with Trent Sherfield and wasn't targeted against the Detroit Lions. It had nothing to do with the young receiver being in Shanahan's doghouse, though. The coach wanted to dispel those rumors and once again explain Aiyuk's reduced role. "No. It's not a doghouse. It's just a pretty simple thing," Shanahan said. "Trent Sherfield has played at a very high level every single day for the entire training camp. Aiyuk

Earlier today, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the media speculation that wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk might be in his doghouse. "No. It's not a doghouse," Shanahan said on KNBR before explaining that the second-year receiver's reduced playing time had more to do with him returning from an earlier injury and the emergence of Trent Sherfield. Shanahan fully expects Aiyuk to earn more playing time as the season moves forward. "I want Aiyuk to get that spot back, but Trent Sherfield doesn't make that easy," the coach added. "He has played at a high level. It's not personal. It's just about guys earning spots." After
