The San Francisco 49ers have placed newly signed practice squad wide receiver Devin Funchess on injured reserve, per the NFL transaction wire and first reported by NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The 49ers announced Funchess' signing on November 24. The Carolina Panthers made Funchess a second-round draft pick in 2015. Throughout his six-year career with the Panthers (2015-18), Indianapolis Colts (2019), and Green Bay Packers (2020), he has appeared in 62 games with 41 starts and registered 164 receptions for 2,265 yards and 21 touchdowns. The situation has prompted the 49ers to re-sign safety Kai Nacua to the practice squad. San Francisco released Nacua on Wednesday as part of a move to make room on the practice squad for Middleton and linebacker Justin March.
