Most damaging thing for me is devaluing of secondary year after year. At least they tried with high picks on OL and have spent top rate on C and LT with contracts. In 12 years they've never drafted a Center. Weird.

Even if they had scouted Mahomes they would have never drafted him, because they would have come to the same conclusion as everyone else: A mid-1st round pick that would be too early to pick in the Top 5. Plus, they were never drafting a QB in the 1st round because they were not intending to start a rookie QB, which is almost mandatory for a #1 pick on a team with no established starter.

I think it's precisely because he is a hall of fame safety. I think he thinks safety and defensive back play is easy - well because he had hall of fame talent as a player, and so it was easy for him. Point being that I think he kind of devalues the DB position in a sense because he knows how important the pass rush play was for his work as a hall of fame safety. Hopefully that changes a bit with Raheem, who is more of a Defensive back centered DC vs Linebacker centered Demeco Ryan and Robert Saleh. Hopefully Raheem does put more emphasis on drafting day one talent level DB's in the draft.

Yeah I think that's a big factor in the 2025 draft being a bit ineffective. vs KC which has had stability at the DC coordinator level for almost a decade or more.

Good news is that Raheem being twice failed HC really decreases the odds of him leaving anytime soon.

I don't like the group of DE's the 9ers have going into Australia. Rams just traded for Tutu Atwell and he gave the defense some fits in LA.

I promise you my guy, the starting team on both offense / defense will look all world compared to preseason

All year they've been cautious with players... if you sneeze or your nuts itch, suddenly you on the injured list. Quite frankly, they have too much depth and they can't even decide who to play for long because they have to see what the other guys look like (preseason)

They're gonna get it figured out by Sunday's chop shop, then get some good practices with the 53 roster. I actually believe they're putting up fronts with lot of interviews, exhibitions and what not... why would they show all their cards? In less than 2 weeks, they're gonna tear up some lamb

Miles behind the rams?? Lol, their secondary was even worse than ours last year. They improved 1 cb, the rest is the same. I'm not going to sit and say our safeties are better, but as a whole the rams secondary isn't "miles better" than the niners

Their #2 corner Jaylen Watson is better than our #1. Trent McDuffie is a legit shut down corner. Their safeties are worlds better than ours and their nickel is better than Stout

It's actually not even close to what we will trot out on game days. None of our 6 guys would start over what the Rams have. Throw in their pass rush and these guys will look even better.

We could have easily built a dominant Oline but instead we take bust after bust and this Oline can't hold up vs the top DLines when it matters

That Oline would EASILY be the top unit in the league with high calibre backups.

Imagine the yardage we would put up if Shanahan would for once stop drafting busts at DL, LB and RB and draft a damn offensive linemen who are always there for the taking. Why do these guys have to make it so complicated?

They aren't gonna draft a center. It's gonna be addressed in FA/trade.

First round pick should be a tackle if it's an OL. Rather they draft Pieper teammate.

Reading the contant complaints about how poorly the Niners draft is like reading a comic strip. It's easy to go back after the fact and say they should have picked this guy or that guy. Sure they've missed on some early picks. Every team does. Each year there are several teams picking ahead of the 49ers and many of them are the same teams every year. With all those high draft picks why aren't those teams winning or even getting to super bowls? By the time the Niners usually pick thre best tackles are off the board. The best at every position are gone. When you pick at the end of the round you're often left with guys that are marginal. After the top 15 or 20 players the quality starts to all look about the same.

Totally agree however with 9 years of data to use the trend is towards the bottom of the league in draft effectiveness. you can't deny it.
