Did the WNBA ever make money before Caitlin came? And it certainly seems they don't like her so should any "new" money go to anyone else? Look at, I think, 1998 ... the NBA knew Jordan was worth more than they could pay him to the entire league and he was paid a LOT more than any other player in the league.
If the teams are not actually making a profit then nothing more is owed.

I see lots of morons trying to act like WNBA players don't deserve more money. They are throwing around this "lost 50 million" number that nobody even knows where it comes from. The finances of the league are a mess, tied in with NBA and purposely murkey. The owners don't…

The CBA negotiations are for 2026, and people are talking about the WNBA's finances pre Caitlin. Everything has changed. What's $50M when the WNBA signed a new $2B media deal? Three new franchises were just acquired for $250M each, the stadiums are sold out, tickets are…

WNBA players currently receive just 9.3% of the leagues revenue(this includes ticket sales, merch, TV deals) for reference their male counterparts in the NBA is 50.0%.
This resulted in their salary cap being set at just 1.507 million for… https://t.co/MZ7OJSNDq2

The previous CBA was paying enough to the players to lose money every year. If they are making money now because of Caitlin then the discussion changes, but "owed" is kind of wild.
Every time someone points out what NBA players make in this discussion it just tells me they are not sports fans and have a fundamental lack of knowledge to even join the conversation.

I do wonder if they are thinking about the WNBA responsibility to pay the NBA back at all for the supposedly half a billion it spent keeping the league going for 30 years? And with the NBA owning a percentage of the league and some NBA teams owning some individual WNBA teams it gets really muddy.
Also, the messaging of "pay us what you owe us" implies the players are not going to get their share which I don't think has ever been true. What they want is a bigger share of the profits, and I can understand and agree that that makes sense. But their new TV deal doesn't start until next year, and we don't yet know how many teams will lose money again this year.
Keeping in mind that we've seen 80% drop in ticket values when CC was going to miss games through injury I could see a situation where the league wants to protect itself from losing her, and I wouldn't be surprised if there were terms in the TV contract about that too. All certainly stuff we'll never know.

Had to look it up and indeed the WNBA has not turned a profit since 1996 when the league began. Even with CC and Reese they are still nowhere close to achieving that, despite recently signing an 11-year media rights deal.
