Full respect to the Warriors owners. They pay their players if they have to pay 100m+ in luxury taxes and let FO do their job. Best owners in all of NBA.
They're looking at nearly half a billion dollar payroll next year including the luxury tax. That's unreal.
We are so lucky to have an owner like Joe Lacob. I still think its so unfair to have to pay crazy high luxury tax for simply keeping players that you drafted and developed. The Warriors dont have one high priced Free Agent on the roster.
you all didn't draft Wiggins man.
I am fully aware that the Warriors didnt draft Wiggins. He was traded for but he wasnt a big time FA signing. Every other high priced guy on their team was drafted and its ridiculous that they have to pay luxury tax for signing them and keeping them on the team. You would think the NBA would want to keep teams together and limit players jumping all over the place.
So the rules shouldn't apply if you drafted the players? These rules were all mutually agreed upon to make the league more balanced. And if you want to hand out huge money, you will be taxed accordingly. This is a classic example of wanting your cake and eat it too.
And why should any fan care about a luxury tax? These owners are so stinking rich. Whether it's the warriors, Lakers, Memphis or charlotte. Props to Lacob for spending it, but it's not like he's gonna be hurting from it. He'll just make less money, but still boat loads.
No. I dont think players drafted by a team should be taxed the same as high priced free agents. Why penalize a team that drafts well, develops their players, and simply signs them to keep their team intact. As for me caring, I really dont as long as the ridiculous tax doesnt keep the Warriors from signing their own guys. But in reality, most teams wont do what Lacob is doing.
League doesn't care whether you drafted or signed players as a FA - that stuff is for the fans.
Bird rights which are used to go over the cap - applies equally to drafted players and FAs. They all become "their own guys" after 3 years.
There is already an advantage built-in which gives the team the right to offer supermax contract to their draftee.
One can also say - why penalize a team that scouts FAs - then takes the risks by overpaying them by millions of dollars - successfully fits him into their system & culture and now simply wants to resign them after all that work to keep their team intact?
