I'm starting to wonder if this team shouldn't become sellers in the 2nd half of the season and start a true rebuild. Trade Chapman, Adames, Devers, Arraez and anyone else they can get good prospects for. I know it's not likely that they would trade all those guys but maybe a couple this year and another one in the off season or next year.
They keep saying they're trying to win now but it's obvious it's not happening. Suck it up and be really bad for a couple years. Rebuild through the farm system like the A's and Marlins seem to do every 2 or 3 years. Of course that may mean rebuilding the scouting as well.
They only have around 30-35 full time scouts after cutting back last year. The Yankees, Dodgers and Red Sox have about 70. That's a big difference. It's no surprise that the Giants haven't been able to find the best talent. Eldridge may eventually be a good power hitter in the majors but he'll probably never hit for a high average, steal bases or be a plus fielder. If he can only be used as a DH and a part time 1st baseman then you aren't getting enough from your top prospect.
I'm wondering if those salaries are untradeable ? We would have to eat some of the costs so might as well keep them in that case.
in other news I heard our farm system Gus can hit the ball well and lead in several categories. We need pitchers though.
i could see us moving Ray for something before the deadline.
I'm just blowing off steam. Nothing in their past history or current leadership points to them ever saying their going to do a rebuild. That's not their style. They seem to think they can compete for a title every year and their fans won't put up with a rebuild. I think many of our fans are tired of the same old thing every year and would actually enjoy watching the young players come up and develop. I know they'll struggle for awhile but eventually every hitter has to learn how to hit at the major league level. Same for the pitchers. They all need to learn that extra pitch to consistently get batters out.
If these guys fail then bring up the next wave. The constant moving players up and down isn't working. Either make the decision to stick with them for a reasonable time when you bring them up or leave them in the minors until you think they can be every day players. Having Bryce play every other day or 3 times a week isn't doing him any favors.
Trading the players I named would be difficult with those salaries but there are teams that could afford them if they felt it would help their team. I don't expect it but I wouldn't be upset since this team as it's now constructed isn't winning anything. They'll be fighting to get back to .500 for much of the remainder of the year.
