I'm actually pretty happy with the Bader signing. He's a gold glove caliber defender and has speed. Now you have two really good defenders in the OF...which you need when you have Ramos out there. I think that makes Gilbert a backup which is good.

Lee isn't a good defender. It's not that he made a lot of errors. He just didn't make some plays he should have. That's why they wanted to upgrade. He has an average arm and takes bad routes. He has the speed to be a better than he is.

Both Lee and Ramos have said they sent much of the off season working on defense. Hopefully it pays off. Lee will need to learn to play that tough right field in SF unless they put Bader in right.

what is it like being wrong so often?

So where am I wrong? Are you saying Lee or Ramos are really good defenders? They aren't. Lee is average at best and Ramos made a lot of mistakes.

They both acknowledged the fact that they need to get better defensively. That's why they worked on it in the off season. Both have the tools to be good if they can learn to take better routes.

When I said you have two good defenders in the OF which you need because of Ramos you took that as Ramos is good? Do you struggle with reading? Obviously Ramos isn't a good defender. Its been talked about all season.

Lee made a few mistakes in the OF but he also made some really good plays. He has a terrific arm and his outs above average was +7, ranking 19th among outfielders and in the top 8% for defensive skills. He also showcased elite speed, recording a sprint speed of 28.8 feet per second, placing him in the top 15%.

You also engaged with prime above about Lee being a scrub and took the comment seriously. Which you do often in here. Which is why I said you are wrong often...because a lot of your takes are awful. Lee started off strong last year, had one bad month, then rebounded. His stats are better than most on the team and he had a crap ton of extra base hits. Like a crap ton...but he's scrub. And compared to today's salaries, he doesn't make that much money overall. See his other dumb comment. Lee will be better in RF, will improve defensively and probably have a pretty damn good year offensively with a full season under his belt. He needs to work on stealing bases. Hopefully. But yeah, total scrub. But to each his own.

I didn't mean to infer that Ramos was good. I said both needed to improve their routes to the ball. They're throwing issues are more about accuracy and throwing to the right base than they are about actual arm strength. Nowhere did I agree that Lee was a scrub.

You said that they now had 2 good defenders in the OF when they signed Bader. I still say they have one. Neither Lee or Ramos can be considered good until they improve the areas I noted. My comments aren't just my thoughts. The front office knew they had to upgrade the OF and I've heard Kruk and Kuip talk about the issue in the OF several times. If Lee and Ramos spent the off season working on their short comings then they must have gotten the word too.

One last word. Most of what I say and what you and other say are opinions. There's no right or wrong. Just the way we feel about something. That's what most of this forum is about. You can disagree with an opinion but that doesn't make it wrong. Just different than yours.

Luis Arreaz…….come on down!!
Luis Arraez for 1 year, sneaky good signing. Finally a contact hitter
I hate this move soooooo much. Arraez is trash. Theres a reason in the middle of his prime, he has been on 4 teams in 4 years. He provides no value. High batting average due to bloop singles. Zero power. Slow, and bad baserunner. Absolutely horrid defensively, and no position to play.

This also means we are likely out on Hoerner or Donovan.

I absolutely hate this.

lol he's one year removed from 3 straight batting titles and hes only 28. Its a 1 year deal for 12 mil. Who cares?

Winning batting titles means so much that every team dumped him after doing so.

I apologize that I want to improve our team.

Who cares how he gets his singles as long as he gets on base. They don't need him to hit homeruns, not all nine people in the lineup supposed to hit for power. If he consistently gets on base in front of the players who supposed to hit homeruns, I'll take him hovering around .300 over the guy like Schmitt with a little more power and .215 average. If he is horrid defensively, that is the concern, but why would they sign a horrid defensive guy. He may not be the best, but I don't think he is that horrid. What really gives me pause is how a 3 times recent batting champ with the .317 average from 2022-2024 is signing a 1 year and 12 mil deal. Am I missing something?

His strike out rate is just over 3%. Seems pretty good in modern day when we have guys around 30%

He doesnt get on base though. His OBP last year was .327 and not much better the year before.
When he starts to lose us games because of his defense, then what?

I know you guys either think this is a good move or a nothing move, but its absolutely a bad move. Like I said, if winning a batting title was so valuable to teams, he wouldnt have been dumped by 3 teams in the prime of his career.

Anyway, I said my piece.
I'm going to sit and wait to see on this one.

He's a terrible defender and they plan on him playing 2b.

His OB % is .327; Casey Schmitt is .305.

He rarely walks. He also rarely strikes out.

He does get a lot of hits and doubles. It's either get a hit or get out though.

He steals about 10 bags a year.

One year deal is crazy for a batting champion. But when you're a horrible defender and don't hit for power, teams won't want you to DH. So you either take the hits and BA and assume risk in the field (what they giants seem to have done) or you find someone else. Which is what has happened to him.

The batting average looks great but it seems like a strange move for a team wanting to upgrade their defense. By all accounts he's not a good defender. As you pointed out he doesn't have the kind of power you want from a DH. Besides they already have at least 3 guys that can fill the DH spot. I know they were trying to get 2 or 3 other guys but I guess they couldn't swing a deal.

And with that, the .500 squad is complete, don't expect no more signings, dumpster diving is over

I hope Buster has a long term plan because I have no idea what the plan is right now.
