They have no excuses other than they just don't want to spend the money to compete with the Dodgers.
There was a time when people that owned baseball teams made their money from them. That's not the case anymore. They're all billionaires that earn their money from other sources. When they buy a sports team it's either to make money when they sell the team or because they're sports fans and are doing it for enjoyment. If they aren't willing to spend enough to win then they shouldn't own a team.
I've been saying that since the Oracle park existence. Here is the problem with the Giants ownership, its structure. The biggest stakeholder only has 25% or so of the team. Besides several stakeholders are the Corps themselves, the majority of stakeholders are holding very small stakes of the team and in it as pure investors. That means they are not as much interested in small (by their standards) profits when they sell the team 200 years down the road, but in the year-to-year team profit. You are correct, it is either passionate billionaire, billionaires making tons of money on other endeavors and know they recoup everything and then some (big, big some) or both (see GS Lacob). Not with the Giants. They have to produce year to year profit and in order to do that, red line on their spendings, the biggest one of which is always payroll. Meaning money in to the point of money out. As usual, you will hear them being on on every nine digit guy on the market, like the rumor they are interested in Schwarber. But that interest is where it will end and in reality, it will be exactly who we sense they'll get (the likes of Wiemer) and the hard sell on them really helping the team. Especially now when they need a ton of pitching and got 4 anker contracts in the lineup already and are not losing ton of money this offseason.

Ron Washington is joining the staff.
Former Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington is finalizing a deal with the San Francisco Giants to be their major league infield coach.

Washington, an infield guru, could have the most impact of any free agent this winter with his expertise.

Very smart hire for a management staff lead by someone with no MLB experience.

Random but I remember us getting Alex Sanchez and I was excited because I liked him on the brewers. Then I think he was caught for roids or something
