2025 San Francisco Giants Season Thread

Seattle has a really good one right now. Cal Raleigh is tied with Ohtani for the league lead in HRs and has about the same OPS and slugging percentage. He's also a good defensive cather. Bailey has a better arm and throws out more runners but of course his hitting is nowhere near what Raleigh is doing.

Cal Raleigh threw out a higher percentage of runners last year than Bailey did. Bailey has him beat this year so far though.

But honestly, who cares? Teams dont steal much these days. Bailey threw out 27% of runners in 2024, and was 5th in the league. Marlins catcher Nick Fortes threw out 22% of baserunners in 2022, and was tied with 4 other catchers for 15th. The difference between throwing out 27% of runners and 22% of runners is a difference of like 6 stolen bases over the course of a season....aka nothing.

"And boom goes the dynamite."
I need to drive down to Richmond and see Eldridge and the squirrels. Been a few years since I went. Last time hung with Will Clark.

He's not in Richmond anymore. They moved him up to Sacramento. If he continues to hit well they may bring him up but how do they use him?

Dom Smith is a good defensive first baseman and a decent LH hitter. They have Flores and Encarnacion at DH. Maybe they use him as a LH DH but then that takes Flores out of the lineup. He's their best RBI man right now. They kind of have a log jam already at DH. Last night Ramos was the DH with Encarnacion in left. Posey said Eldridge is improving on defense so I hope they keep him in AAA and let him continue to play every day. In the long run that's more important than bringing in a LH bat that probably wouldn't play every game. He's going to be in SF sooner or later.

he's got 2 games in AAA let him play more in AAA. natural time to bring him up would be sept if he's doing well. now if he wants to knock the door down, he can come up, but that means more than 2 days worth of crushing it at AAA imo. he can learn a lot from the folks he's playing with, competing against and getting instruction from at the AAA level. that's player development he misses out on if he skips a level. i see no reason to start the clock early. you want to make sure when he comes up he stays up.

That would be the best scenario but sometimes teams bow to pressure. I was watching Smith make some plays at first last night. He looks like an excellent fielder. He went downin a stretchto backhand a throw in the ground. It was the type of throw that a tall player would have trouble making. Bryce's height is an advantage for high throws but those low ones in the dirt seem to be common now. I imagine that's going to be what they'll have him work on the most.

As far as his hitting it's just a matter of getting more ABs. He's a natural hitter and seems to hit LH pitching almost as well as RH pitching. The adjustment for him will be when he gets in the majors. Will he be able to handle the better breaking pitches and the way pitchers set you up. It's something all young hitters must face.
