Yeh but getting Pete Alonso in addition to Adames would have totally defied the payroll reduction. The budget line that is infinitely more important than placing total complete team on the field. Always had been and always will with this ownership collection group. They've gotten away with placing half the team and the other half patched up, they hope they can get away with it again. What they don't realize or more precisely don't care is the landscape of baseball and specifically the NL and NL West had totally changed from 15 years ago.

Not to pile on...but gonna pile on since it's so damn frustrating. They CAN'T get away with having such a limited budget line because, in addition to what you mention about the baseball landscape changing, they don't have many (any?) can't-miss, up-and-coming prospects in their farm system to plug in any time soon and help the pathetic offense. Maybe Eldridge later this year or next year (he's DHing until he can get his D together).

Yes, it's beating a dead horse, but after their excellent run of homegrown talent years ago that led to the three titles, they've had an incredible dry spell throughout their entire minor league system regarding the offense. You would think, as someone pointed out (Catch?), the law of averages with all those draft picks over the years they would have produced someone right now that's a bona fide star. Ramos is the closest they've gotten from their homegrown talent - it's good to see him continuing to produce this year. But too many years of not hitting on their picks to find consistent, productive hitters (especially power guys) really has taken its toll.

It sucks looking at so many other teams and the homegrown talent they've produced over the years. Just give us ONE guy at the infield corners or in the OF that really puts fear into opposing teams. ONE guy teams have to account for as a serious threat every single game. Don't think that's asking for too much.

It's great to see the pitching doing what it's doing this year - the SP & BP have been really good and is so far good enough to give this team a fighting chance. But the offense hasn't been doing its part and, if it continues, they won't have a chance against the top NL teams let alone the two in their own division, LA & SD.

If he rakes for a couple months, he needs to be up in August. First base is the easiest position on the field to play. He will figure it out.

Three titles happened on the strength of 3 pitching studs on the rookie deals, allowing Sabean to build back end of the rotation with the emphasis on D. Lucking into Posey pick and a couple of homegrown guys, Panda, Belt and Crawford (who really more solidified D). The rest was your Huff, Burrough, Ross, has been Renteria, Ishikawa, Burrell and on and on. The reason Giants got away with it from 2010-2014 is because LA was McCorded (same as Cohenian Warriors) while SD and AZ were nowhere to be seen. Thus until 2014 when LA was purchases by Gugenheim group, the Giants were practically assured of the division or at least a WC coming out from one of the weakest divisions in baseball (except 2011, Posey's injury). And once the team is in the playoffs, all that is needed from the O is the key hit here and there because in the playoffs the exceptional pitching and D are mostly at a premium. And even then, the Giants needed bunch of miracles along the way: two errors in the same inning by Atl SS, excuse me homeruns from the most unusual sources, Zito's miracle elimination game out of the blue, and bunch of other unusual things. What happened in 20210-2014 are not coming anywhere close to today's landscape, yet the Giants are operating and fielding half the team as if it is 10-15 years ago. Because the budget dictates that.

It's nice to have a good rotation and bullpen. Now if only the offense gave a s**t, but who am I kidding.

Who the hell is Burrough? And also in 2010, the Giants won the division on the very last game of the regular season, they were in a tight race with SD that season. And in 2011, I believe AZ won the division. So I don't think they were "nowhere to be found" as you said.

either pat the bat, or joe burrow. he's right on LA in that they had a poor owner, and mlb took the unusual step of removing their poor owner, and assuming league control, then getting a better owner. i didn't see the league install a new owner on the As. i don't hear a peep from mlb about the ownership group in colorado. plenty of bad owners, as jed says, you don't dismiss owners, well in mlb you do and you rig the situation for LAD. that's why i have no respect for their bought and paid for championships.
Encarnacion looked completely lost at the plate too, hacking at every pitch, he didn't know what was coming

Yes, I meant Joe Burrow. 2010 was the beginning of the run when Posey came up in the middle of the year, May I believe. 2011 was him being out for the year, someone had to win the division.

As far as today's LA is concern, I don't consider them to be in the league. I don't care what they win, even though I have a baseball package, I am not watching a single Dodgers minute, nor I will watch them in the playoffs, and not recognize anything they win. Buying the championships is not a sport.

As far as the Giants are concerned, I am not placing them into competition with the Dodgers or any other team, I just want them to get into the playoffs on their own. And that is not happening in today's environment by building half the team, as they did 10-15 years ago. Too much competition right now to get away with it. Unfortunately, ownership group's self-financial restrains are not allowing to build the complete team on both sides and there is nothing cheap in the pipe on the hitting side to immediately bring up. Maybe would be possible to trade an excess of pitching to the "sellers" for the established hitter(s), but if they are making the kind of prohibitive money, that is not feasible or will be approved.

When I meant with SD and AZ back then is neither was anywhere close to what they are today.

LA only has one reral championship in recent years. The 60 game Covid season doesn't really count.

I have a problem with owners that aren't willing to spend in order to build a good solid team. Spending on free agency and even more so on the minor league system is a given if you want to win consistently. Giants ownership cut back on the number of scouts which is contrary to trying to be frugal. If you build through the minors then you don't have to overpay for free agents. All these owners are billionairers and most buy teams for fun. Not as a way to make money. It doesn't matter if a team loses a little money each year. If they build a winner, fans will come. If they decide to sell they always make a huge profit.
