But the 5 years to at SS and 2B is missing a lot of context. Luciano was a kid when they drafted him, and his body had not matured. He got older and bigger. Had he went the college route, to the minors, they would have had more time to figure out where he is supposed to play.

Also, a ton of star players changed positions. That didn't mean they messed that player up. The player has to adapt and get better in the field.

They for sure did him a disservice by not moving him sooner.

Sleeper agent farhan ruined the best giants prospect of the last 10+ years.

the bigger issue is he's never been able to stay healthy. I'm already ready to move on from him. Hopefully, like Ramos last year, he proves me wrong

He could still end up being a good hitter. It's just too bad that along with those injuries it took them so long to realize he wasn't a good infielder. If they made te move to OF a couple years ago he would be farther along learning that position. They realized quickly that Eldridge wasnt th best fit in the OF because of hs lack of speed. Now he's learning to be an every day first baseman and he's only 20. Plenty of time to learn. Like I said before with his powerful bat all he needs to do is become adequate in the field.

I for sure understand why they gave up on him at SS. But I thought- what did he get 3-4 games at 2B tops? Way too soon to move him to our already crowded outfield.

I've heard Duane Kuiper talk about him and he doesn't see the natural ability to get down on ground balls. It seems the coaching staff finally realized it too. If he can get his bat going like they had anticipated then his best spot may be as a DH and occasional LF backup. Some guys just aren't god on defense. David Ortiz is in the HOF and he couldn't play in the field at all. The Giants had a player named Glenallen Hill that was a decent hitter with power but was an absolute butcher in the OF. They didn't have the DH in the NL then so the Giants eventually parted ways with him.

Quick story about him. I was lucky enough to sit in Willie Mays' box a few times. One game he was sitting behind me and a ball was hit to Hill in right field. A routine one hop liner that he muffed and turned into a double. I looked at Willie and he was shaking his head. He said I tried working with him on his fielding but he said he didn't need my help. That tells you all you need to know about Hill.

Can we stop with this? We didnt "RUIN" Luciano. He is still really young and developing. If he doesnt turn out, its not because of how he was handled.

Eldridge played first base growing up in addition to outfield. He isnt learning a new position.

He didn't play it a lot. He also pitched growing up.The point is he has to learn to play it well enough to holddown that spot as a major leaguer.

He was mixed up by the end ot last year. Up and down. SS then 2nd base. Then DH. Now OF. How can that not mess with a players head. It certainly appeared to affect his hitting. He didn't show any progress at all at the plate and seemed to actually regress.

The Giants have a recent history of bringing players up and not allowng them to get settled in. They send them back down as soon as they have a couple bad games. I know they do this sometimes to fill in for an injured player but bringing them up just to sit on the bench as they sometmes do isn't a good way to develop them. Young players with holes in their swing or deficiencies on the field need to play in order to correct them.

You read too much into it. I am not a fan of up and down, but players know if they are underperforming. Luciano knows his fielding wasn't good. Its up to him to work on it and his hitting. He's a professional. Other than DHing, he didn't leave the giants with many options last year with his fielding.

by not changing his positions - he severely impacted his development. Maybe he would be farther along in the OF.

it makes me feel better knowing that it was farhan's fault - dont take that away from me steve.

now that he's gone, our boy eldridge will flourish. Farhan was holding everything back!

was he holding Ramos back? How about Fitz? how about Harrison and Bridsong? Just an illogical comment.
