Until further notice, the Dodgers continue to be the class of the division. Will never give up hope for the Giants, though. Fuc% the Dodgers & their spending (though have to give them credit over the years for drafting/developing good talent - to either contribute or be valuable tradable assets).
They've used the only sport that doesn't have the salary cap and bought the superstar team piece by piece. And made baseball predictable. Braves are the team that developed the players and I pray they or someone out of nowhere like AZ last year will put kibosh on this efing circus crap. It's like the Warriors when KD joined the 73-win team and the next three years became the Warriors expected every regular season game winning margin to be over 30 points. What was so exciting to watch the Warriors' starters hitting the bench by the end of the 3rd quarter.
Originally posted by tl57:Betts and Glasnow were actually acquired by trading prospects. They got Muncy for nothing as well as their closer Evan Phillips. Overall, it's pretty hard to favor the Dodgers for any moves they have made. Whether it results in multiple titles is the question but they are a well run franchise that has made smart moves.

Yeah. New manager and a lot of moves in the lineup. We have to give time to Melvin to let them gel the right way. Yeah, hopefully Luciano and Matos are up soon. Yaz will have his moments, but should be a backup. And Ahmed is already back where we thought he'd be hitting .238 despite Garce and Zack in the thread thinking he's going to be an all-star.
Defense has been off to a bad start with Chapman, Ahmed, and Bailey making some mistakes. I think that turns around.
But the bullpen might be a legit issue outside the closer...which we haven't been able to really get to yet.
The other one I am probably over is Fitzgerald. He had one of the worst games ever when he made an error (easy GB), led to a run, and K'd 3 times. I'd rather see Schmitt to be honest.

As for the Dubs, I loved every minute KD was there. The Warriors were the most exciting and fun team to watch.

Betts and Glasnow were traded for. Dodgers have done a great job of player development over the last 10 years and have used a lot in trades and have kept some for a while like Seeger, Bellinger, Kershaw, Buhler, Will Smith, Urius, Jansen.
Some young guys on the roster that could be good or already are Bobby Miller, Gavin Stone, James Outman, and Gavin Lux.
Plus they consistently have a top 5 minor league system with developing talent picking late in the draft every season.

It's a scam. MLB took control of the Dodgers when they had bad ownership. Now do you see them doing that for the Fisher As? No. They did it to protect the brand and one of the flagship MLB teams. Delivered them from bad owners to deep pocketed ones who run it well. That's quite a favor wouldn't you say? So they are a scam fake team, built under false pretenses and bailed out propped up by MLB

Yeah I am not trying to hear this, John. Did the Dodgers send over some players? Sure. But for all intents and purposes, these were free agent signings. Neither the Red Sox nor the Rays got anything close to good value for Betts and Glasnow, because they were essentially salary dumps. The Dodgers were only able to get either of them because they were willing to pay massive extensions for both (and the fact that their farm system was/is so loaded that they are ok giving up their 12th best prospect in a trade).
So essentially, I agree with both you and TL. The Dodgers basically got a top tier arm (albeit with injury history), and one of the best players in the game for virtually nothing in a trade, and they were able to do so simply because of how loaded their farm is. The Giants couldnt have offered similar trades because it would have cost us our 3rd, 5th and 6th best prospects, when those same caliber of players were Dodgers top 15-20 prospects. But overall, the quality of their current team is more about their spending than their prospects. They have 3 MVPs in their lineup because of money.

Why couldn't the Giants give up the 3rd, 5th, and 6th best prospects? They can afford the extensions and I think that is going to be the route they have to take to land a superstar and then that will make it easier for them to sign another.
Like looking back, who are those top prospects from 5 years ago now?

Thats was because the old owner couldn't make payroll for the players. Probably the best thing that happened to the team. He still owns the parking lots and revenue from that. Lol

He could make it, but MLB wanted a reason to kick him out and restore the franchise to glory. They used whatever excuse they could and seized control of the Dodgers. He had TV deals lined up that would have netted billions and guess who refused to sign off on them. The old commish. The guy who then ended up taking control of the team, and lining them up with new ownership. It was a racket.
