The legality of online betting in California is a confusing mess. I tried checking out some sports betting sites from there a while back, but most of them wouldn't let me place bets once they figured out my location. Even if you manage to make an account, the geolocation blocks usually kick in when you try to wager. My friend drove over the border into Nevada just to make a big March Madness bet a couple years ago, so I think going out of state is what lots of people end up doing. Yes, it's really dumb. I don't understand why CA voters didn't pass legalization
you can either cross a state line to bet, use VPN to mask your location (doesn't always work), or use an illegal offshore site
