Definitely. I was working on my desktop and it was running in the back - and yea - I kinda got emotional just watching the players and they also showed the gf/wife. I thought he's dead. Pretty scary and disturbing. Glad he's ok and hope he is back at the WC next year.

Has to be a heart issue, I remember watching the game where puerta died, has a heart attack on the pitch then comes to and walks to the locker room. Has another one back there and dies.

He had a cardiac arrest, went into V-Fib or VTach. Thankfully they only had to shock him once to get his rhythm restored.

What caused the VF or VT? Unclear until further testing. He probably has undiagnosed HOCM (Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy) which is a disorder where the heart muscle basically becomes too large and eventually obstructs blood flow out to the body and to the heart itself leading to cardiac arrest. This is a frequent cause of sudden death in young athletes. Nowadays all sports teams screen for this with ECHOs but it can be missed even with testing.

Other possibilities include a congenital cardiac conduction abnormality. Less likely would be a severe electrolyte imbalance PRIOR to going out that day. This is extremely unlikely in a young healthy guy.

The Cardiologists at whatever hospital he will go to will undoubtedly test for all of these things.

His playing career is in severe jeopardy.

BTW I am a Intensive care physician so not just making this stuff up, lol.

Yea it was, very fortunate they were able to restore his rhythm with just 1 shock. Hopefully they can determine the cause and in his case prevent it from happening again.

You're welcome. And yes it will be difficult to get him cleared to play again. Athletes in the past have had to retire for HOCM (if that indeed is what he has), Cuttino Mobley comes to mind. Awesome lefty scoring guard who was still playing a high level when he was forced to retire.
Fwiw Danish players are saying now that UEFA gave them no option to end the game after that incident. Both teams wanted to end the game, but UEFA said otherwise. And then UEFA lied saying the game continuation was both teams' wishes lol.

Yea I remember Mobley - didn't know that's why he retired early. Tough to see Eriksen get cleared to play again. Hope everything checks out great and he is cleared but not the most important thing for him right now.
