San Francisco Giants 2019 Off-season Thread

Yikes, start the firesale soon. Some of these dudes could still be good if we turn in around in 2-3 years. For instance Will Smith is only 29 currently, Panik is 28. Bum is 29.
The older guys like Belt (31), Melancon (34), Watson (33) we should try to deal. No one will probably want Sharks or Longo's huge contracts.

nobody is taking Melancon. He sucks and makes more money than Mike Trout. IMO the worst contract in the org's history.
Going tonight, excited to watch a no-hitter in person!!

Never thought anything would eclipse Matt Cain's but as of now Melancon has.

Is weather the only reason they have their home opener later?

yeah you are right. Do you think we should keep Panik since he's just 28?

well the time to trade him was before he had a string of injuries and was really productive. I believe a few times asked about him during the Duffy trade. I would be OK with trading Panik, but I would hope he stayed healthy and produced to up his stock. Right now he's just a contact hitter with a really good glove. But he has the potential of being a .300 hitter with GG defense.
Every team that faces the Giants should just call up 2 or 3 AA or AAA starting pitchers a day or 2 before the series. Giants would have the worst record in history if that happened

I know I am hard on Panik and people are going to judge me for making comments like this because they know I dont like the guy....

But at what point are the "really good defense" or "GG caliber play" narratives going to go away? He had a good defensive 2016. He has been a bottom tier defender the last two seasons, ranking in the low 20s and below in all relevant statistical categories (and often times well below the low 20s). At what point do we look at 2016 as the outlier and not the norm?

Doesn't the team have a opt out of Melancon's deal after this season? For some reason I remember some sort of opt out

There was one opt out...a player opt out after last season.
