This is definitely an overreaction. Over 0.85 points per game for a 20-21-year old is really good.

If there's a good player we have to unload this offseason, it's Eklund. Apparently we offered him for Simon Nemec at the trade deadline and the Devils were the ones who refused (if rumors are to be believed). Even then I would prefer to trade Graf + draft picks but that's probably not enough.

If we miss playoffs, I would try to get as high up in the draft as possible using our pick and Edmonton's. If we make the playoffs, I would take both picks and try to trade for someone.

Smith hasn't shown me enough to warrant a big contract that may be looming in the future and could potentially handicap a team.

My hope for smith would be develop into a great center in his own right and we'd have a Crosby/malkin duo.

Celebrini/Misa might achieve that.

but you're right, these guys are all 1st or 2nd year players trying to compete for a playoff spot, future is bright, even tho it was a depressing loss last night. Every moment for this young team is a learning moment, whether win or lose.

That's why I keep eklund over smith

can be a factor without playing with celebrini

The amazing offensive talent masked the poor defense and inconsistent goalie play

young fellas did a hell of a job compared to the last two years when the rebuild essentially took off, but more work is needed. Didn't think we'd be competing for a playoff spot, but the west wasn't this good this year, and we made the most of our chances

we're probably better of acquiring the blue line pieces than developing them (which takes longer)

if playoffs are out of reach (dependent on tonight) than the goal of this season is to finally beat the preds
