The biggest embarrassment was him taking that big hit in the preseason, seeing stars, and admitting that it scared him, and he second guessed if he could handle the NFL. The amount of crap talking that all of Australia and NZ did about how the NFL was weak for using pads, and he goes and looks like a weenie representing rugby.

Not all.

Not all, but a decent amount. Or at least a faction of vocal rugby fans online.

Maybe Hayne's report helped clarify the stereotypes about the NFL in that part of the world.

I'm not interested in reigniting any Rugby v NFL pissing contests, but I will say I think the wearing of helmets in the NFL encourages the frequent use of the head in tackles/contact. You don't get deliberate use of the unhelmeted head in Rugby League or Rugby Union for very obvious reasons. Despite this, there's still plenty of knock outs and concussions in Rugby but they're usually the result of accidental head high contact or illegal tackles rather than deliberate use of the head. I think Hayne's comments about the heavy hits refer more to how much the head is involved in the NFL compared to the two Rugby codes, something he obviously wouldn't have experienced prior to playing in the NFL.

Rugby League hits are tougher then NRL any day.

Hayne was just a whinging cry baby and cannot have any weight given to his say so.
Biggest difference I got after playing a bit of both at U21 level is you don't always see the hits coming in American Football, it's the ones you don't see that mess you up. Rugby requires more stamina and as such the power isn't necessarily there all the time.

i got a feeling dude is being setup. A lot of thirsty b***hes coming out of the woodwork, trying to remember if they've f**ked anyone remotely famous in the past few years that they can get some money out of.

I read the pleadings. I am far from convinced. She does not even want to be named but is willing to name him. She did not make a complaint to the police for 6 months. Those things are suspect. It all comes down to the credibility of the complainant coupled with objective evidence such as the Uber records etc. However, professional sportsmen do have to be careful with who they associate with and who they take home.

Hayne should have been smarter

At the end of the day the DA didn't think there was enough for the charge to add up to a jury. Looks like this case is a try on for MONETY$$$

But we shall see

If they didn't wear helmets, itd be an entirely different sport/game, and the style of play would make it far less popular. The nature of the hits, due to the helmets, is what makes American football unique.

Rugby is mainly lateral tackles and hits, getting pulled down from the side or from behind, etc. with the occasional head-on collision (defenders are almost never so out of position by not following the ball/ball carrier that this rarely occurs, where a defender has to get a full running start and attempt to "truck" a carrier dead in his tracks)

Only really purposely designed, direct, head-on contact I can think of occurs in scrums

By contrast, American football are invariably set-piece plays, where two lines of players unavoidably smash into each other (even on mundane run plays), QBs throw the ball forward yards downfield and sometimes "hang" their receivers "out to dry" (i.e., throw too high) and the results are usually defenders can't help due to momentum delivering bone-jarring hits.

Helmets precluded the advent of the forward pass in the history of American football by a couple decades; there had been enough injuries (and some deaths) once American football instituted the system of downs and yards to gain and gameplay evolved from the more fluid rugby-style non-stop action to the more deliberate and set-piece gridiron down & distance style of two teams smashing into each other head-on, that helmets were mandated (IIRC, the outcry for more protective equipment reached all the way to Congress and the president).

I strongly disagree. There's plenty of head-on collisions in Rugby League and most players would experience it in the course of a match, in both attack and defence, though some positions far more than others. The role of the front-row forward is exactly that, basically a human battering ram. The biggest guys running onto the ball as hard as they can from 15-20 meters back directly into the defensive line. Happens at least a couple of times on every set of 6 tackles. Fullbacks and wingers also often run at full pace straight into defenders on kick returns.

Anyway, back to Haynesy the root rat.
