Until LeBron matches the chips Kobe's acquired he gotta take the back seat to him. Sorry but that's just the way leaders are measured. I fully believe LeBron has the potential to pass Kobe and maybe one day MJ but he's gotta do it first and so far he has come up short on the court. Off the court I feel he is a better person than either guy but we talking ball here not likeability
What if he loses again? He would be 2 for 6 in the Finals. He would have to do a lot of winning then, if he wants to be even mentioned with Shaq, Magic, Duncan, Hakeem, Bird, let a lone Kobe or MJ.
As a pure NBA talent, I think he's the greatest, but he's just not the best basketball player ever. Same logic would also apply to Dan Marino, or Barry Sanders, majority of people would agree that neither of them are the greatest of all time, but both had the greatest talent.
In some people's eyes, that is a ridiculously better accomplishment then let's say going 4 for 4 in the Finals because the fact that they even went to the Finals is an accomplishment in of itself. I don't know about this. In my opinion, getting to the biggest game of your life and not being able to execute a win is a failure, something that will haunt you for the rest of your life. No one wants to experience that too much. And no one remembers the second place winner unless you are the Bills or the Seahawks.
Ya, to some extent though. In the NFL, that would be a good accomplishment, not great, but good. Look at all the hate Brady was getting because he lost some SB games, and remember all the talk how if he didn't win that SB against the Seahawks, it would've affected his legacy.
I think in basketball, it's even more of a big deal to win those finals. When you look at, MJ, Kobe, Shaq, Magic, Kareem, Bird, Duncan, all of these guys had good records in the finals, a big reason why the are considered all time greats, imo.
If you're considered the greatest player on the planet at that time, (like Lebron is rightfully so right now) you are expected to win. Basketball, is one of the few team sports when one guy can make that huge of a difference. NFL, NHL, MLB, you can have the best player in the world on your team, but that doesn't mean you will win or even be the favorites in certain games.
I'm not saying Lebron should win the 'ship if he has a bunch of summer league players around him, but this isn't a bad Cleveland team he's on, he needs to win this 'ship. And he definitely can't have another repeat of last years finals, where he has 18 TOs to only 14 Assits (first 4 games) and almost gets swept.
