Edmonton signs Cam Barker and Darcy Hordichuk

And Ben Eager (to Edmonton)

Teams pushing hard for Brad Richards: Kings, Leafs, Rangers, and Lightning.
D Joel Ward to Washington Capitals! http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=567893&navid=mod-rr-headlines

That's HUGE for Washington.

Another signing update: Steve Sullivan to Pittsburgh.
Dallas Stars just signed RW Michael Ryder to a 2 year/3.5mil deal!

Good move here, he scored 18 goals and 23 assists last season

I hope and pray that he does not end up in LA, go East Brad....
Aside from Ryder, Stars also get a great deal on C Jake Dowell for 850K, Joe making some moves today, if we can land a defensmen next I will be very happy!

I was hoping he'd resign with the canes. It would've kept the team close and would help if we had a playoff run. Oh well hopefully this means we can get a winger to pair with staal
Carter + Richards + Leino for Bryzagalov + Jagr

Bryz isnt that good of a goalie, he certainly has one hell of a defense in front of him now.

That's bad news for Pacific Div teams. I don't want to have to deal with Ryder.

If we get Leino -- doubtful? -- I'll be excited.

Man, I can't help but root for Florida. They're really trying to get it done and get themselves into the playoffs next year. They've been the underdog for so long, I really hope they can put it together and make it to the post-season, if not just for the sake of seeing a different team out there other than the same old.. "Caps, Flyers, Penguins.." every year.

So far, the Panthers have added.....

Defensemen: Brian Campbell, Ed Jovanovski, Mike Kostka

Forwards: Tomas Kopecky, Marcel Goc, Scottie Upshall, and 3rd overall pick John Huberdeau

Goalie: Jose Theodore

Florida Panthers add another player. The dealt draft picks for Philly's Kris Versteeg.
Ville Leino to Buffalo 6yrs/27mil

Good heavens. Screw the Leino to SJ talk. 4.5 mil/year. We're not paying that, we're the cheapo Sharks. We'll sign some grinding 4th-liners at best, or nobody, and just play rookies.
Selanne had knee surgery and is still considering coming back. If Jagr can come back, then why not.
Dallas signs D Sheldon Souray

I like this pickup, it's a low risk/high reward situation

Dallas Stars hire Glen Gulutzan as their new head coach!!

I really like this move, he has been coaching the Texas Stars the last two years so he is familiar with the organization, and there won't be a total reboot of the system. He is credited with grooming young players like Jamie Benn, and Tomas Vincour while they were on the AHL team. Good hire, glad to see some new blood behind the bench.

I don't know if it will be a good hire. But I'm glad to bring in a coach that preaches a two-way game. Good solid defensive work is key to building a competitor, and I thought we've been lacking that big time under Crawford.

But Crawford was a disaster hire. Like I've said earlier, I'm really not sold on Nieuwendyk as the GM. It will be interesting what he does with the roster and how Gulutzan has the lineup. Is Benn going to make a permanent shift to Center? I think he will have to with Richards gone.

Not counting FA signings, my guess on the top 3 forward lines:

Morrow- Ribiero - Ott
Eriksson - Benn - Glennie
Burrish - Wandell - Vincour

New forward lines:

Morrow - Ribiero - Ryder
Eriksson - Benn - Glennie
Ott - Fiddler - Burish
Dowell - Wandell - Vincour
First to get called up: Barch, Peterson

D:
Robidas - Goligoski
Daley - Souray
Grossman - Pardy
First to get called up: Fistric, Larsen

G: Lehtonen, Raycroft

Glennie is probably a tough spot to call, but I'm hoping he can make it to the NHL roster. Pardy played for our coach in the past and I think is a tad bit better than Fistric. Souray was probably mostly a pickup for our PP, and Fiddler was a big pick up for his defensive game and PK. Our 3rd line will be nasty to play against.
