Lets go by stats then, He also Avg 25 PPG vs slow white guys, but only dropped 14 vs a really slow center playing out of position?

In real life a team with the frontcourt of Shaq and Sabonis would get ran off the floor by quicker players, but not in whatifsports eyes.

Going by that logic, these games would have final scores of 210-207 and each team would take 180 shots per game. Because Shaq averages 30ppg, Wade averages 30ppg, Penny averages 22ppg, Sprewell averages 23ppg...that's 105ppg just right there. Pretty much everyone's PPG is going to be down significantly. There are only so many shots that can be taken.

And Shaq in his prime was so much faster than either Parish or Schayes that it isn't even a comparison. The teams that have beaten crzy have been the ones that have had big men that could pull Shaq & Sabonis away from the hoop (McHale, Laimbeer) (Chambers/Sampson), which is usually how "big" teams get beat. The Lakers have a terrible time with stretch 4's for that exact reason.

John...as I said over PM, I think that your PG position is the reason that a guy like Barry & Thompson are struggling. In terms of the teams that I thought would be good, you can chose to take my word for it or not. I do believe I posted that I thought that lifer had the best team in the thread. I wasn't trying to make predictions here, I was just saying that I thought that the sim is MUCH more accurate than I thought it would be.

Pete.. I have 3 excellent PGs. Gus Williams was first team All NBA in the year I am using, Dennis Johnson was first team ALL NBA in the year I am using, and Phil Ford was 2nd team All NBA. Here is the funny thing too. You think Gus Williams should be getting all of the playing time. Crzy sent me a message saying DJ should be getting 40 minutes. I AM SO CONFUSED!

Come on LA you didn't answer the question, why doesn't whatifsports take into consideration that sabonis is playing out of position?

I'd argue that it does. The PF & C positions are so closely related that it's barely relevant. Sabonis was an excellent outside shooter with range that extended behind the three point line, and one of the 5 best passing bigs in the league's history. But he would struggle with the quickness of other PFs, and would have a hard time guarding those guys on the perimeter. So would Shaq. And the two teams that crzy have lost to have had bigs that were very effective from the perimeter.

How exactly are the PF & C positions different?

Dampier is a scrub. Kaman is a guy who puts up hollow stats in a watered down league.

Sabonis is 10X better than both those guys combined.

I agree that the sims are a little out of whack at times. But essentially, this is a FANTASY type of league lol. Thats gonna happen. Also, if someone had bought the season package, I think things would balance out better, as opposed to just simming random games.

I know alot of guys researched on WhatIf during the draft. Those are the guys that probably have the better teams.

Anyhow, no matter how bad my team is, I'm still enjoying the whole thing.

Don't matter what your personal opinions are. Kaman and Dampier had great stats in the years I'm using them period. No way should Sabonis out board this combo. Period.
Whatifsports is about stats not personal opinions. And it should'nt allow a 7 foot slow white guy to play PF effectively, it would never happen in real life.

Yeah, we PM'd each other beforehand and plotted that out. (totally kidding)

I love DJ as a player, as I said in the PM. Great, great player. But he wasn't a distributor, and I thought that you'd benefit from having a PG that can get your scorers the ball. You didn't like your offense, and I thought that would help. Since you've made the change at your PG position (Ford was more of a distributor than DJ as well), I believe that your team is shooting 50% from the field, when you had several games in the 30's with DJ as your PG.

It's not that I don't think that you have good PGs, John. I'm just talking about how things fit.

I agree. Its still fun. I did not research on What IF but went by my knowledge of players (obviously screwed up I guess) for the most part. Oh well.

Notice how the Clippers and Grizzlies happen to have a ton of pre-ABA merger players in their starting lineups.

From an era where most guys couldn't shoot, most guys were unathletic, except a few freaks....

NinerJohn, Rick Barry was a great player, but Barry was a sub .300 three point shooter for his career. So even though he was a legend at the free throw line, he doesn't really have elite range on his jumper. And that's what's killing his shooting percentages in this sim. He's shooting a horrible 3PG%

Danny Granger is a better three point shooter than Rick Barry ever was. This is the truth.

Because Erick Dampier and Chris Kaman are quick lol

A Sabonis and Shaq frontcourt would work fine if both were in their prime.
