I watch the broadcast for the game, not the crowd. I couldn't care less about the vuvuzelas or missing what the crowd chants.

wow. a red card for that? MAYBE a yellow, since maybe he was swinging his elbows carelessly...but a straight red? IDK man. I think this ref has been way too involved in this game.
I think the refs have been WAY to involved in the WC....its almost as ridiculous as FIFA not banning the vuvuzelas that is such an African tradition since 2001
the refs are WAY more ridiculous than the vuvuzelas. People need to get over the vuvuzela. It doesn't matter where they originated or when, the fact is that the people in South Africa like to blow them during soccer matches, and these soccer matches are being played in South Africa. Should FIFA ban singing at a World Cup in England because fans elsewhere find the songs distasteful?
The reason why I like watching soccer matches is like the same as college football, for the pagentry and the singing, not the ridiculous horns which has completely nullified the pagentry of the tournament, that alone has brought this WC down IMO, again it is my IMO not fact...
different places have different atmospheres during games. everyone has a preference, so whose should win? how about we make it simple and allow the people attending the game to create the atmosphere.
That would be fine, but not at this WC....where any atmosphere created will get trumped by the noise made by the horns.
that makes no sense
You could have 100 people singing, and their voices would be drowned out by this guy.
phat's right: it makes no sense. as i said above, the vuvuzelas are part of the atmosphere. You don't have to like it, but to say that "atmosphere" can/should only be one thing is silly. its just a narrow view based on preference, which is fine, but which is why we should all stop getting upset about it.
It only takes a few a*****es with vuvuzelas to DICTATE the atmosphere.
does it? I thought they were pretty prevalent at the games.
anyway, it still doesn't matter. they get "played" at soccer games in South Africa and these soccer games are being played in South Africa..
It does matter, its not as bad as it was because of filters for the tv audience, but when players are complaining about it, its a problem. There is nothing we can do though. But it has really dampered this WC.

yup, they all just want to get in on the scoring. probably want to out do portugal too.

hopefully games like this (and the one earlier) will help these favored teams loosen up and play to their ability throughout the rest of the tournament. they're all so constrained by expectations (except for Brazil) that it seems like they really needed to come out and whip somebody's ass to get their mojo back.

yup. agreed. but I dont think that this scoreline is really justifying Spain's superiority in this game. cmon, more goals Spain!

True, the matches are being played in South Africa, but it's the WORLD CUP with a global audience. The bottom line is reason enough.
Besides, do we even know if the fans at the stadiums -- South African or not -- are OK with them? It only takes a few a*****es to make a lot of noise.
And now the f**king things are coming to baseball.
There won't be a World Cup in Africa for a very very very long time.
