2009 Oakland A's thread

Saw the A's resigned A.Brown.

Good move IMO.

I'd hope they'd give him another shot. He's been "injury prone" in his short career but when he's been healthy, he's been lights out.

Remember last year he and Casilla really started off red hot, both started the season with I believe scoreless inning streaks of 20+ IP but then both got injured and neither was really the same since.

He'll probably begin the year at AAA and we'll see what happens after that. With the way the A's maybe burn out their pen a bit if the SPs don't go further than 5 or 6 IP at best, A's may need to call up the likes of a A.Brown, Cameron and others in AAA the second half of the season.
A's also called up Patterson from AAA Sac where he's been tattooing the ball and been great on the base paths...

.329/.440/.543 with 7 2Bs/3B/2 HRs/6 RBIs and 9/10 on SBs in 19 games/70 ABs

...although he tore up AAA Sac last year after we got him in the Harden deal from the Cubs and he didn't impress much at all during his stint in Oakland especially when Ellis went down and both he and Pennington didn't do anything that made the A's think either was a long term factor a reason why IMO they went after a Cabrera in the offseason.
Cardenas is just tattooing the ball right now at AA.

.355/.410/.579 with 10 2Bs/3B/HR18 RBIs in 76 ABs/18 games

Yep, this is I think the Cardenas most had expected when the A's traded him, not the one who struggled last year both at A+ Stockton and AA Midland, especially the first stop in his A's minor league career.

Question is what position will he play long term? 2B, SS, or 3B?

I think best case would be for him to be a SS and Weeks when he comes up to be the 2B.
A's up 3-1 with three outs to go.

Hopefully they don't blow it.

Braden and Bailey have been great.

4-1 now. Bout time Holliday hit's a HR.
A's win 4-2.

Finish April 8-11, thought .500 should be the goal and seeing how many games the A's blew this first month because of the bad offense, .500 should've been the record or at least a few games over .500 but I guess I'd take 8-11, thought it could've been worse.

Offense has been subpar, guess the biggest disappointments have been Holliday and Giambi, the two big bats so far have only hit two HRs combined. Suzuki have been IMO the surprise. Everybody else has been pretty much meh, Cust although has been solid.

Pitching, well both up and down. Braden has been great IMO. Cahill up until his last start was pitching well although way too many BBs and not enough K's. Same for Anderson, had one horrific start against the NYY but everything else was pretty much as you'd hope for. Like with Cahill, not enough Ks. Eveland has been up and down.

But the star IMO has been the pen. Ziegler, Wuertz, Springer, Casilla, and Bailey all have sub 2 ERAs. Other than the blowups by both Blevins whos in AAA and Geise in his two long bullpen duties in those extra innings, the pen has been LIGHTS OUT which was to be expected even with Devine out for the year.
Big props to Sweeney too for robbing what could've been the game changing HR.

He's not been hitting as well or enough with power as many of us had hoped for but I still think he could be a solid pro if he can get that power going.

That play was incredible!

6 foot 4...had he been 6'1", that ball is gone.
Yeah, should be one of the top plays on either BBTN or SC but it's the A's and not a team in the northeast so who knows.

Just as I typed that last post, seeing BBTN's opening sequence and Sweeney's catch is showing.

Shocking...
What a surprise, BOS and NYY get the firs two highlights.
First 10-12 minutes based solely on either the NYY or BOS.

Even the players they used, the snapshots for their in and out promos are all BOS and NYY players.

ESPN can have some s**tty "western" studio here in LA but it's still a heavy biased northeastern network.

Thank god for MLBN, they haven't fallen pray YET, even though it's based in NJ.
Well 40 minutes in and the A's get their highlights shown.

Can you imagine if lets say a Damon or Ellsbury made such a play in the OF, they might've spent a good 5 minutes examining the catch.

Cardenas with another good game.

0-1 but has an RBI and 3 BBs.

If he continues to hit and play this well the remainder of the season, could see him a starter here with the A's beginning of 2010 probably at SS since Cabrera and Crosby are done after this season most likely.
