2009 Oakland A's thread

Thank you.
TB next at home, then going to TEX.

Gonna be a rough next week if the A's continue to play like dog s**t.
We are horrible... I have told myself I need a break from the A's until after the NBA Playoffs...
I don't think the A's can wait for one of those patented second half or AUG/SEP runs like they've done in the past decade.

Somehow I don't believe this is a team built like that, mainly because of the inexperienced SP possibly breaking down at the end of the season unlike when the A's had horses like the Big 3, Blanton, Haren and others around as the rotation.

Add to that if they do end up slow, who knows if they'll keep Holliday for an entire season to see if that surge does happen the last month or two like it has for many of the years this decade the A's have made the playoffs.
Oh yeah, did Buck slap Geren's wife because is there a reason why he's not getting any starts lately.

Really could care less if the team is facing a slew of LHs, I'd rather have him out there than Davis or Sweeney at this point.

Maybe should bench Sweeney who I still like but is struggling bad and at least Buck in their short careers does better against LHs than Sweeney does.
Saw a stat today that the A's are winless on day games.

0-7 I believe after today's game.

Do the A's play with a lack of fundamentals when the sun is out too.

If Raji Davis is higher on the depth chart than Buck is right now (for some mystifying reason) then out Bck in AAA and let him get playing time. This is ridculous and a waste to ahve him up here and not playing.
Suzuki obviously should be batting a lil higher in the order as well. The dude leads us in hitting, but only had 1 RBI before today (2 for 6, 3 RBI's this afternoon).
Outman again comes out of the pen, again does this mean that Gallagher is going to the rotation soon.

I'll beat this horse to death until I actually see it happen.

Gallagher should be in the A's rotation and have felt that since really it was announced that he wouldn't the last week
Urban will be on KNBR "talking" A's next hour.

Whoopie....
Don't agree with Urban at all much but I do here with his Q&A session at the A's site...

Quote:
What exactly do the A's have against Travis Buck and Sean Gallagher? It looks like both are being badly mishandled. Buck should be starting games against left-hander pitchers, and Gallagher should be starting in Triple-A so he can work on the things he needs to improve.

If I ever hit the lottery, Amanda, I'm going to buy a team and give you a job. We think a lot alike.

When are we going to get rid of Rajai Davis? He's terrible. Every time Geren makes a defensive replacement in the late innings, it seems like Davis ends up getting an at-bat an inning or two later and striking out. There's a reason Ryan Sweeney is the starting center fielder.
-- Chris N., Santa Rosa, Calif.
Right, and the reason is that Sweeney is a better hitter than Davis. But he's not a better defensive center fielder. He's fine, but Davis is better, and that's why he gets some run as a defensive replacement. What I don't get is starting Davis over Buck, who needs and deserves way more at-bats than he's getting.

WHO WANTS A T-SHIRT!?!?!?!!

im glad the draft is this weekend. now i can get A's baseball out of my mind for a weekend.
Some good news coming from the minors.

Cardenas has just started to rake at AA so far hitting .360/.418/.600 with 7 2Bs/3B/HR/8 RBIs in 12 games/50 ABs.

Carter also at AA is doing well after a slow start hitting .300/.367/.460 with 5 2B/HR?16 RBIs in 12 games/50 ABs.

Mazzaro at AAA SAC is pitching well so far thru the first few weeks. 3 GS but has a 1.93 ERA in 14 IP, problem area as it is with many of the A's youngsters is his control as he has 7 BBs.

But there is some bad.

Hunter at A ball is struggling albeit in only two starts as he has a 7.71 ERA in 7 IP with 5 BBs.

Donaldson who unlike Cardenas last season tore it up once he reaches the A's minors is struggling with a clip of .184/.367/.263 with 3 2Bs/5 RBIs in 11 games/38 ABs.
