Also you'd hope Braden can go deep into tomorrow's game.
The pen these first two games have been spent and to see the NYY coming up in a potential bandbox, the A's will need a semi-rested pen heading into that series.

just a couple of games ago 4 or 5 guys were hitting over 300. i think the averages will come back, its still early.
The lack of power is what concerns me. Jays have 22 homers, we have 3. how ridiculous is that?
Also talking about all our offensive "talent," chavvy and garciaparra are already down with injuries (no one surprised there) but holliday/giambi/cust have really been our entire offense. Cabrera has been sub par thus far, same with sweeney, and without those guys setting the table its harder for the middle of our lineup to do much.
also, i really like what i see out of cahill, and thats why i think we should send him back to AAA right now. the kid has filthy stuff, but until he gets his control (5 walks today) under control he's gonna be living on the edge every start.

True about the AVGs, but Cust has been by far the best hitter this early season.
HRs, well Holliday I feel for as he crushed two balls in that BOS series and they hit at the top of the 2nd tier of the coliseum wall at the 382 mark so in most other parks, he would have at least two HRs.
But Giambi has only 2 XBHs. Sweeney, the power still isn't there. He could hit .280 but he's gonna need to add that power sooner or later to be a legit starter in the bigs. Again 10-15 HRs max and 30 2Bs, that's what he should be able to hit with that frame and potential power which we all heard about last year with Thomas and M.Sweeney.
I think Cabrera has been solid so far but agreed wtih the table setters at the top of the lineup. Which is a reason why a lot of A's fans wanted to see possibly Cust moved to the 2nd hole. So far, he has a OBP of .458 and he's good for a .400 OBP you'd think.
Course then the A's would have to get those key hits, something that's been off and on this entire season.

Mentioned a couple of guys in the minors a few days ago off to a fast start, well both Cardenas and Doolittle once again having huge games SAT.
Cardenas went 2-4 with a couple of 2Bs and is now hitting in AA .368/.415/.632 with 7 2Bs/HR/7 RBIs. The SLG % is a sight for sore eyes as Cardenas when he was dealt to the A's midway thru last season didn't hit for any power so nice to see it coming back to start off this season.
Doolittle went 3/5 with a HR and 5 RBIs yesterday and is hitting now .341/.386/.512 with 2 2Bs/3B/HR/7 RBIs.
Even got to attention of Sickels at his site..

Quote:
**Oakland first base/outfield prospect Sean Doolittle is 9-for-36 (.308) with two doubles, a triple, three walks, and six strikeouts so far for Triple-A Sacramento. I think he is one of the more fascinating players to track this year. In college at Virginia, he was described as a Mark Grace clone, a guy who would hit for average, get on base, play great defense, but not provide as many homers or as much pure power as the normal first baseman/corner outfielder. But last year he hit 22 homers and 40 doubles between the Cal League and the Texas League, at the expense of a higher-than-expected strikeout rate, including 54 whiffs with just 17 walks in 201 at-bats in Double-A.. Can Doolittle find a better balance this year? It is too soon to know, of course, but I like the aggressive promotion to Triple-A.

A's are leading the MLB, not leading but last in AVG, OBP, and SLG.
They are last in HRs and in SB %.
Bright spot? Well they grounded into the 4th least amount of double plays.

Looks as Braden probably will go deep into this game.
But the offense...

...and to think I thought the A's caught a break by missing Halladay.

It's embarassing to see the lack of power production from this lineup.
Hollliday, Giambi, Cust...they're gonna hit for power eventually, but who else in this lineup will even hit 10 HRs this season. Maybe Ellis if he can stay healthy.

A's can barely outpower the other team across the bay thru the first two weeks.
Now that is embarrassing considering how much money was put into this offense and as an AL team, you gotta rank them as of now the worse offense in this league, AGAIN.
