2009 Oakland A's thread

Well ESPN's Law breaks the news that Krol rejected the A's 600K offer and is heading to a JC.

Damn...
What the hell, Anderson and Gio both getting rocked after they've been pretty much unhittable the past month plus.

Maybe Anderson is feeling the innings getting to him now.

Gio, well bad Gio showing up today.
I think that the White Sox offense is just THAT good. Check out their lineup 1-7. Whoa
True but Gio and Anderson did do much much better against the NYY who may have the best offense in baseball over the past month plus and at their stadium where they just put up runs.

Cahill pitching tomorrow, with the way he's gone lately, looks like a sweep.

Not gonna get any easier to start off next with with the NYY coming here.

Also seeing the field all f**ked up because of the Raiders game is disheartening, A's need a new baseball only park of their own.

With MIN opening Target Field next year and Florida of all teams getting a new park built, that leaves only TB and the A's as the only teams not playing or about to play in next parks within the next 3-4 years.

Hopefully the SJ scenario takes place although nothing major in terms of news will probably come out until early next year. Hopefully the economy will be better by then because the A's picked about the wrong time to bring up building a new baseball park especially here in California.
Updates on the minors...

-Carter goes 0/5, 2/17 in his last five games. To be expected, nobody was gonna hold up the pace he was doing the past 30-40 games.

-Desme with another HR, 27th for the season, he has 37 SBs, so he's three away from each from having a 30/40 season in the minors. I can't think of the last player whos done this and certainly has been YEARS since the last A's prospects showed this amount of power/speed albeit still at A and A+.

-Weeks has been struggling bad. The minor injuries he's been fighting thru this season, his first full major league season, probably isn't helping much this late in the year.

-Cardenas whos been struggling bad for about a month has started to turn it around. Before today's game was 7/18 although only has one XBH in his return to AAA to start this month.

-Wallace went 1/3 tonight and has a hit in six of his past seven games but only has one multi hit game during that stretch. .253/.323/.386 line so far in 83 ABs at SAC isn't good. Not worried at all. The guy will still be a hell of a hitter once he reaches the bigs.

-Leon the 20 year old, will turn 21 about 3 weeks from now, from the Mexican league who the A's signed, I don't know back almost two years ago has been dealing at AA. He's been used mainly as a reliever and has dominated. 12 IP, 3 hits, ER, 2 BBs, 9 Ks in his last three outings but he went 5 IP, 2 hits, ER, 0 BBs, 3 Ks which looks like a start to me. Maybe they're stretching him arm out late this year so he'll maybe move back as starter to begin next season maybe at AA, or even AAA.
Cahill with back to back good outings, BAL last time out and ChiSox today, and he'll probalby get losses.

Guy can't catch a break these days.
A's win.

Score an run the last three innings with the game winner a Ellis walk off.

Since coming off the DL, Ellis has been on a tear.

Not including today's game, since coming off the DL in late June...

-.309/.340/.486 with 13 2Bs/5 HRs/31 RBIs in 39 games.

good game today! Was fun sitting up close and personal.
I think Ellis will be a nice vet to keep around for next year... especially since he doesn't really cost that much. I honestly think he could be right there with all those good 2Bs in the league next season barring any injury.
Yeah, Ellis is one of the most underrated players.

He doesn't wow you with his #s, although when healthy he can put up solid #s for a 2B, add to that him playing gold glove D and it's a rip off that he hasn't won a gold glove in his career...he has one of the highest baseball IQs of an A's player in the past decade.

2010 will be his last year with the team in all likely hood with Cardenas most likely taking over by the start of 2011, maybe Weeks and he will fight for the starting 2B job sometime in 2010.
Speaking of Cardenas went 3/4 tonight with 2 runs, 2B, RBI, BB, SB.

.393/.410/.412 with 5 BBs/5 Ks in his last 8 games now so he's heating up after a bad month plus starting in July at AA and up until early last week.
Pretty good night for the A's minors...

-Wallace went 4/5 with a HR. .284/.347/.443 in 22 games at AAA SAC.

-Carter breaks out of his mini slump with a 2/5 night with a 2B and 2 RBIs.

-Peterson the 1B/OF prospect in the Holliday deal is continuing to hit well at AA. 2/5 tonight following a 3/5 with 2 RBI game SAT. .325/.389/.475 in 20 games. Pretty good prospect the A's got as a possible throw, personally would've been happy if it was straight up Holliday for Wallace, so anything the A's can get from the other two prospects in Peterson and Mortenson is gravy. Peterson is 21 so he's young for his level too so that's another plus.

-Spencer who was the third prospect the A's got back in the Blanton deal from PHI along with Cardenas/Outman is raking. 3/5 with a 2B/HR/4 RBIs tonight. Since the start of July his line is almost Carter-like at .373/.420/.602 with 20 2Bs/3B/5 HRs/36 RBIs in 39 games. Now he's a bit old for AA, 23, same as Brown and Desme once he reaches AA hopefully sometime this season.
Tomorrow is "d-day" for draft pick signings.

Green and Stassi confident in, but Krol, don't know.
BRETT TOMKO starts for us tonight.
