Yes he should be gone

Considering his draft slot he has been disappointing. At this point, however, we have no one to replace him, nor do we have an immediate need to clear his cap space.

I've been watching Spotrac for available FA Safeties that might be an improvement. What we need is a better coverage Safety than Brown who is OK as a run defender. There are a number of Safeties still available but all lack coverage skills. An example is Jaquan Brisker of Chicago, He is currently listed as a $10million market value, and he is still available. However, he is WORSE than Brown in coverage. Would anyone want to pay that kind of money for someone worse in the skill set we need?

That is pretty much the picture with remaining FA Safeties. Maybe something may develop but it isn't obvious to me right now.

Brown's cap hit won't change between now and at the tail end of pre-season. We don't need the money right now.

Might as well wait to see if costs go down with FA targets and see if we can address in the draft.

We also have a new DBs coach. He'll need time to look at the tape and understand if Brown can be productive in our scheme (current or evolved)

Jaquan Brisker just signed with Pittsburgh. One year. $5.5M.

A lot of people wanted him to come here. However, he is a good example of the problem we have at Safety: Brisker is a Strong Safety, good tackler but not good in coverage. Hence, Chicago was not interested in keeping him even though $5.5M is not a lot of money.

Let's hope the new D staff can move the development of our young players to a higher level.

I had about $13.2M of that accounted for, so it's an additional $7.4M that I didn't know about, likely from Aiyuk's injury policy.

Pineiro's details are in BTW, he got a $2.5M signing bonus, a $2.2M option bonus for 2027, a $1.935M option bonus for 2028, a fully GTD $1.215M 2026 base, a fully GTD $1.5M 2027 base, a $1.7M 2028 base w/$585K fully GTD, and a $4.635M 2029 non GTD base, plus void years to push the cap hits out.

Cap Numbers are $1.715M(26), $2.44M(27), $3.027M(28), $5.962M(29), and a $2.541M dead money hit in 2030.

I have them, before knowing Evans, Tonges, Toth, Dre, Hobbs & Gifford's deals $26.5M under their $341.1M adjusted salary cap, those 6 likely take up about $15M in top 51 cap room, so likely in the $12M range is leftover, while they can save $17.104M from a Bosa restructure, and about $16.7M from a Trent extension.
Damn we should have gone for Trey Hendrickson with that extra money

Nice thanks for the breakdown! So they're good to go moving forward.

Thanks AB!
Update on Pineiro, he also got $255K per game RBs for 2026 & 2027 & $340K per game RBs for 2028 & 2029, and $25K workout bonuses each year, and his signing bonus was $2.55M and his 2027 option bonus is $2.22M, so his cap hits are $1.951M(26), $2.725M(27), $3.397M(28), $6.332(29), and a $2.55M dead money hit for 2030.

Thanks man, appreciate it
a possible explanation of the $20M salary cap increase and the $7M that AB81 didn't account for:

https://www.sfgate.com/49ers/article/loophole-49ers-cap-space-22075735.php

"Each NFL franchise receives some sort of adjustment every year depending on multiple factors, such as whether players hit contract incentives the previous season. Recently, however, a new adjustment source has come to the forefront: insurance payouts on injured players. ESPN's Kalyn Kahler shined a spotlight on this practice in 2024 following the season-ending injury to Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, whose contract the Jets did not insure. The way it works is that ownership pays for insurance against a player's guaranteed salary out of its own pocket, and if the team sees relief due to the player missing games, it grants cap space the following season. The provision allowing for this practice has existed in the league's collective bargaining agreement since 2006.

Enter the Niners, who were the fourth-most injured team in the NFL last season based on games missed. While not every player has an insurance policy covering his contract, San Francisco lost some big names (read as: big contracts) last year for the entire season, or at least for an extended stretch of games. Those high earners include Nick Bosa (torn ACL), Fred Warner (dislocated and fractured ankle) and Brock Purdy (turf toe).

While the exact breakdown of where that $20.7 million came from isn't public yet, we at least know that $7 million was from insurance on Bosa's salary, which was reported just one day after his injury in September."

Nick Bosa has restructured his contract, creating $17.17M in cap room, according to Jason Fitzgerald of OverTheCap.com.

We seem to be in really strong position now cap wise. I wonder if there's any big deals left to be made, or just putting us into position later.

So with Bosa's restructure do we now have $28-29M when you account for everything except Trent's possible extension?
