An ROI analysis.

Based on snap counts, importance of position and production, where are we getting the most bang for our buck? Where are we losing in ROI? What have we learned about this FO's tendencies?

Hehe. I think you could take it to a whole other level though.

cap space, we got any of dat?

We will once Jimmy's traded, somewhere around $12M net after factoring that we'll be about $8M over the $208.2M cap, this is mostly due to the fact that Dre & Omenihu's base salaries went up from $965K to $2.54M, & Deebo's went up to $3.936M for making the pro bowl, I forget exactly what it was, but he pretty much got over $1.8M raise, & Omenihu/Dre got $1.575M raise, so that's $4.95M lost. But they'll end up with cap room, they'll likely either release Ebukam or get him to take a pay cut down to minimum, add in NLTBEs, saves $4.865M.

This doesn't sound like much cap space to resign DJ and Laken while extending Deebo and Bosa

With Deebo & Bosa they'll likely do what they did with Warner, reduce Deebo's base salary down to $965K, use the difference as part of his signing bonus, as for Bosa, take his training camp roster bonus, turn that into a prorated part of his signing bonus, so the cap hits don't go up that much, Deebo would(if a $15M signing bonus) be just $29K of cap room used, Bosa would be(if a $30M signing bonus) be just under $1.7M more, so when John Lynch said the 49ers have budgeted out for Deebo & Bosa, I think this what they'll end up doing.

Thanks
Do we save money for letting go of dee ford?

Only with a post June 1 cut, $1.505M after the top 51 rule.

Correct, I ran it from 2009 till, sometime around the Harbaugh era, then in 2019 I decided to create 49erscap.com, as I was writing for NinersNation.com.

As a CPA, all this cap stuff, down to minutiae is really interesting. I love pouring through the numbers and the scenarios.

I thought I saw someplace that post-June 1 saved $7M. No?

You can only designate a player with a post june 1 cut once the new league year begins, but the reason why OTC is showing that is he's yet to add the $4.6M in as GTD money, it was never $7M post june 1, if they had been able to release him, they would have saved just $2M, as the remainder of his signing bonus prorations would accelerate onto the 2022 cap.

Great!

Especially that 3rd link... I had gave up hope that we would be able to keep Aiyuk long term, but I see there is a way to still have those star players all on the same team.

Thanks.

Yeah, I don't see an issue with them extending Bosa & Deebo this offseason, and then Aiyuk next offseason, now I doubt they'll sign all of those UFAs I have them re-signing, it's more of what I would do, not what I think John, Kyle, Adam, Paraag, 49ers, etc.... would do, but no reason with the cap going way up by 2024, like to $256M-$260M range, they can't keep Aiyuk, having both Deebo & Aiyuk will be the best tandem we've had in decades it seems, it's nice to have a deep WR room with Deebo, Aiyuk, & Jennings.
